Address Book Entry Problem

Hi there. When entering a transaction, I add Supplier Name (from the Address Book) into the Description field. Following the latest update, when I select the description field, the resulting drop down won't scroll down! So I can only select those showing. Needs fixing.

    Hi,

    We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

    I believe you are running Moneydance 2022.3 (4077).
    Upgrading to the latest preview version should hopefully fix the problem for you.
    Moneydance 2022.4 (4078) is now available to download from this page.

    Please ensure removing any older version before installing the update.
    I recommend creating a backup before proceeding.

    Just tried this and no joy. Same result I’m afraid. Scrolling down the address book still is not possible.

    Please can you send us your Moneydance error logs? The logs should include information about what might be causing the problem.

    They are saved on your computer as an errlog.txt file.

    You can get to your error logs as follow:

    1) navigate to Help->Console Window to show the console log in a window

    or

    2) in the Finder, press ⌘⇧G and then copy and paste ~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support into the field and press enter/return.

    At that point the finder will show an internal folder which contains the errlog.txt file which contains the log.

    Finally you can paste the full content to your next reply here.

    OK. I copied and pasted the error log into the link below, but the system didn’t like it! Not sure why.

    I’ve copied an extract from the last few days below. I’ve also shown a screen shot of the problem I’m hitting. So what you se is what happens when I click on “description”. The Address Book pop up is over-sized and it is not possible to scroll p or down. I hope you can fix this! It’s a right pain!!

    Could you try to select the address entry in the transaction first?

    This is required in order to have a link between the transaction and the address book entry.

    I don’t understand! That’s exactly what I try to do. I click the drop down within the Description but cannot scroll down to select an address that is not visible.

    Can you try resetting your Moneydance preferences and see if that fixes the issue that you're seeing? To do this, you have to rename your config.dict file.

    Please take note of your license key and save it, separately as you will need to re-register later.
    Using Mac OS X, the file should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:

    ~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

    or:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

    If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder, open Finder and select Go --> Go to Folder --> and copy and paste in exactly the following:

    ~/Library

    This will pull up your local Library folder, and you can navigate to the locations above.

    Once you've found your config.dict file, close Moneydance ensure it's closed fully. Then rename the file to config2.dict

    Once you've done this, open Moneydance again. It will appear as though you've just installed the program for the first time, so you'll see the Welcome window.
    Your data file should be listed on the right of the window. If not, choose 'Open Other' and navigate to your data file.
    When you're viewing your data file, choose Help --> Register Moneydance and input your license key.

    If you run into any problems, you can simply close Moneydance and rename the original file back to config.dict. Then open Moneydance again to restore your original settings.

    You could navigate to Extensions->Manage Extensions->Install Toolbox
    Launch the Toolbox and navigate to Toolbox options (on the top left) and select Update mode.
    Then, select MENU: General tools, and choose Reset Window Display Settings. Select Reset Window Display Settings from the drop-down menu and follow the on-screen instruction. Finally, restart Moneydance.

    Also, to improve the sensitivity of the Scroll of the mouse you might need to turn off inertia scrolling from within your operating system (not Moneydance). You can find this in Accessibility - Pointer Control - Mouse Options. If you still notice a delay when clicking on categories, you should start typing the category name and use the autofill instead. This is much quicker!

    OK. I nervously ran the Toolbox routine. I really don’t like messing around with this sort of stuff!! Anyway - no change was the outcome. I can’t find Accessibility under any of my menu options so have not been able to try this. Am I the only one hitting this problem?

    I can’t be the only person in the world using the Address Book and hitting this issue.\

    Please advise next steps.

    I understand how you might feel but generally this solution works.
    Have you tried restarting Moneydance after resetting the window display?

    "I can’t find Accessibility under any of my menu options so have not been able to try this. Am I the only one hitting this problem?" You are not the only one facing this problem! Often changing this setting within your operating system has resolved the issue.

    If none of the above is helping, you may want to try running the latest update.

    Moneydance 2022.4 (4080) is now available to download from this page. You should remove or choose to overwrite the older version. Doing so, will not interfere with your data file/s as they are stored in a different location within your system. That being said you can always take a manual backup before proceeding. To create a manual backup file, choose File --> Export Backup. Finally save your file to your desktop.

    OK, so I just tried the Address Book on 2022.4(4080). I cannot see any issue. The field scrolls properly. The only thing I noticed is that the popup scroll box is pre-filtered based on the text already in the Description field. So if it's set to "hello" and you have an address called "goodbye" then this will not appear unless you remove "hello" from the description field.

    Unless you are saying that the popup is larger than your whole screen?

    Has this ever worked for you?

    Can you send a screenshot of what you are seeing when this does not work?

    Thanks for stepping in here. This is a small but frustrating problem!

    Right. I am using Moneydance 2022.4 and MacOK Monterey 12.3.1

    When I enter a transaction I select new transaction

    And then I click the drop down under description to select my supplier and this is what I get. The pop up fills half the screen (it didn’t used to) and I can’t scroll down the list to select other suppliers.

    If I open up an older version of MD (for example - MD2022.2) this is what the screen looks like upon selecting description and it is possible to scroll down the supplier list.

    I hope you can help because this is bugging me! I can work around it by selecting and editing an older transaction, but it is a little clunky to say the least. Let me know how you get on.

    As a work around try typing in the description it will autocomplete or at least reduce the number of entries in the dropdown.
