Is there a known issue with the connection to PayPal?

K. I think this is something paypal does.

When paypal reported to me that someone tried to login to that account (It failed), they required authorization every other day for about two weeks, then it went back to once a week.

Don't know if that helps, but it is information.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/546350322022-06-12T12:07:29Z2022-06-12T12:07:29ZPayPal downloads via Plaid requiring re-auth every couple days

Thanks for the info. I will say this is frustrating. Do any other banks require this through Plaid? Coming recently from Quicken, which many issues over time with downloads btw, but when it was working it would almost never require any type of re-auth. One login to paypal and it was good to go pretty much permanently.

Is there any way a MoneyDance employee can open a ticket somehow to try and get the time between re-auths lengthened to something more reasonable than every week or so?

K. Rothtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/546350322022-06-12T22:48:27Z2022-06-12T22:48:27ZPayPal downloads via Plaid requiring re-auth every couple days

just a user - from what I know about MD+, MD doesn't control how the banks interact with Plaid, nor do they have any type of "in" to suggest that it might change.

Quicken, otoh, IS "Plaid" (or at least, an aggregator) so they can negotiate with other banks to do what Quicken wants them to do.

That said, is your Paypal account business or personal? If business, there is an extension that you could use instead of MD+

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/546350322022-06-13T01:21:09Z2022-06-13T01:21:09ZPayPal downloads via Plaid requiring re-auth every couple days

It's a personal PayPal. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I found it's possible to sign up for an account at https://my.plaid.com/, and see/manage the Moneydance connections there (after re-authenticating each bank). I also submitted a support ticket to them about this issue. If they provide any solution I will post it here.

K.
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

Which version and build of Moneydance are you using?
To check, open Moneydance and select Help --> About Moneydance

Could you send us the contents of your console log, from when you're trying to connect to PayPal via Moneydance+?
Here's how to get the logs:

1) In Moneydance, select Help > Console Window. This will open the console messages window.
2) While the Console Window is open, attempt to connect to your bank using Moneydance+. Any error messages should be recorded to the Console.
3) Select all of the text in the Console and use the "Copy to Clipboard" button at the bottom to copy the text.
4) Paste the text from the message window into a text file (preferably saved with a .txt extension) and attach that file to your response here.

To add an attachment to this thread, please click on the "Browse" button.

The debugging logs that this produces may contain your account information. I've made sure that this conversation is private, so the info won't be broadcast to the world, but just to be safe you can redact any account info in the debug logs. Just replace it with something like "ACCOUNT NUMBER HERE" and it will be fine.

I've fully sanitized the console log; so I made this public again to be able to continue sharing updates where others can see them too. I'm running 2022.4 (4087).

I did get a response from Plaid: "We are currently running into an issue with our integration to PayPal, which is causing an issue updating previous connections. Our team is working to investigate and resolve this, but unfortunately we don't have an estimate for when the connection may be fully restored. We understand the extent and impact of this on users and are doing everything we can, however there are many factors that contribute to a resolution, some of which may be outside of our direct control."

K.
While we are looking into this issue for your, we'd recommend importing your data manually for the time being. You can download it using the OFX or QFX file format, if available. If not, use the QIF file format. (These files are sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files). You can import the files to Moneydance using File --> Import.
The steps for manually importing your data are outlined in this article from the Knowledge Base.

We will post an update on this thread as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience!

That was surprisingly easy to download via their website and import into MD. Note for any other users following along, PayPal doesn't appear to offer OFX or QFX downloads (at least not for personal accounts), but they do offer QIF files, accessible from https://www.paypal.com/reports/dlog.

K. This is likely due to PayPal recognizing different IP addresses and prompting with a reCAPTCHA before sending out a 2FA code. Unfortunately, for this reason, Plaid is currently unable to support some accounts with these 2FA settings enabled.

Unfortunately though, it doesn't appear to have fully disconnected.

If I "Download All Accounts", it still shows an attempt to access PayPal in the status bar. If I open my PayPal account window and click the Download button, it shows me two options: "Download from MoneyDance+" and "Open www.paypal.com in browser". The second item is expected, since I put the URL into the account edit popup. But the first is not expected at this point.

I've tried removing the URL temporarily from the account details popup. I've also tried Connecting to PayPal again via MD+ (so that the password/connection is actually active) and then Dis-connecting it again, to no avail (well, actually, there was one thing - it now shows 2 "Download from MoneyDance+" choices when I click that Download button in the PayPal account...).

Is there a Stuart's toolbox advanced option that might fix this?

** UPDATE ** I tried a couple of toolbox items after making a backup, and it appears that "Cleanup Missing Online Banking Links" was able to cure this problem...

K.
