Two things of note:

The app seems to be using 2.1GB memory - this is a lot.... So I would try disabling all extensions for now..

It mentions Rosetta

Something has blocked a thread: "blocked by turnstile waiting for Moneydance [38649] [unique pid 436649]"

Perhaps you can expand on your environment?

As mentioned before, need that console....

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/550454822022-07-19T10:15:49Z2022-07-19T10:15:50ZMultiple Crashes Per day

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for the reply. I will disable the extensions and keep an eye on it. I’m running on a MacBook Pro M1 (Apple Silicon) so that’s why Rosetta will show up (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosetta_(software))

I’ve not noticed any pattern when it crashes, it’s just pretty random at the moment but I’m trying to identify specific actions to try and reproduce the issue.

Will keep you posted

And several extensions that seem to work as well.

The "blocked by turnstile" is just the MacOS thread manager waiting for threads to need to be active. If you can get a stack shot it doesn't seem that MD has crashed but is hung and unresponsive? If you have a crash log from the application "unexpectedly quitting" that might be helpful. Probably just gives a Java crash.

So exactly what do you mean by crash? If it is a freeze, how much of the machine is frozen? Does it require a reboot?

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/550454822022-07-20T12:18:53Z2022-07-20T12:18:54ZMultiple Crashes Per day

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. I've not worked in MD today but planning to do so tomorrow again.

When freezing I'm referring to Application Unresponsive. It's not freezing up my machine as I'm able to do a kill -9 and restart the app again.

Will keep poking around and try get you more logs when it happens again.

Really appreciate your support.

You can do an option-right click on the dock and use "Force Quit" instead of opening terminal for a kill command. The errlog.txt file is at:
Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt
Hold the option key and use the "Go" menu in the finder to access the Library folder.
Or open a finder window, press Command-Option-G (⌘⇧G) and paste in this path

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/550454822022-07-22T21:42:33Z2022-07-22T21:42:33ZMultiple Crashes Per day

This is probably the culprit.

java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot read field "key" because "<parameter1>" is null

So, what are you trying to do when this occurs? It looks like you are trying to edit currencies? Do you get a message on screen?

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/550454822022-07-22T21:47:31Z2022-07-22T21:47:31ZMultiple Crashes Per day

Also please make sure to send an errlog.txt file right after the force quit, but before you relaunch the program. The file is rewirtten each time the program is run, so it wouldn't capture any error messages if you restart the program right away.

I'd also enquire if there's a specific screen or action you are doing when the program seems to freeze. That could help narrow down what's happening.

Is this correct? Is this when it 'hangs'? Are you trying to manually click on Tools/Currencies. What do you do, what do you see?

When did this start happening? Has it always happened? What did you just before this started happening? Upgrade MD perhaps?

I see you are on macOS Monterey 12.2.1 - after a system backup can you upgrade to the latest 12.4?

Do you have Mac's accessibility features turned on (or off as per the default)?

What MD Theme are you running? Can you try a different one and see if the problem goes away?

What system language is configured? What MD Preferences for 'Locale' are configured?

Lastly, can you:

launch Window / Console and click the clear button. Do this until it's clear/empty. Leave console open.

now go to menu Window / Show Moneybot Console. Then in the Python Snippet area paste this code:

moneydance.getUI().editCurrencies(None)

.. and click Run Snippet....

.. Does the Currencies window appear OK?

.. What now shows in console... Can you post that information here?

Out of interest, does Tools/Securities work?

Your answers might help pinpoint the crash...

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/550454822022-07-23T07:20:06Z2022-07-23T07:20:06ZMultiple Crashes Per day

Will do, thanks
