Can I have two securities with the same name, but different ticker symbols?

Yes, if you like. Most people who have this, actually don’t want it.

I was referring to mutual funds that have the same name but different ticker symbols BECAUSE they have different CLASSES. I chose NOT to use the same names. One mutual fund I properly named and the other one I used an invented name. I am having trouble retrieving the Quote Loader program daily price for the mutual fund with the invented name. Of course, there might be another reason for this problem. Please advise.

The name shouldn’t be the issue, but you can easily test by making the name different and seeing if QL then works.
Perhaps share the two ticker numbers

Hi mrengr
If you post the two ticker symbols and the names you are using other can test for you.

Security name is not relevant for Quote Loader, it works entirely on
Ticker and Exchange (if chosen).

Washington Mutual Investment Fund (AWSHX) and Washington Mutual Fund Class C (WSHCX)
The ticker symbols in parenthesis are not part of the names entered. The first one works, but the
2nd one does not. The first one can be used by Quote Loader and the 2nd can not. Seemngly.

I have just tried WSHCX and AWSHX in Quote Loader and both work fine on Yahoo and Yahoo HD. Just check there aren't any spaces in the ticker symbols and that an exchange is not selected.

In the Edit Securities pop down window list, I see the following:
Washington Mutual Investment Fund (A\
Washington Mutual Fund (WSH
BUT,
In the Portfolio View I see the following:
Washington Mutual Investment Fund (AWSHX}
Washington Mutual Class C (WSHCX)
Go Figure!

Hi mrengr
As Mike both securities worked in Quote Loader. I also tried FT and FT HD and they worked as well.
See set up in Moneydance 2022.5(4088).
In later builds of Moneydance information about securities was enhanced so older builds may look different.
Hope this helps.

I am pretty sure I fixed the problem. As the mutual fund that caused the problem was recently added,
I made a change to that entry to fix the problem. This change consisted of adding Yahoo HD to the ‘Source’ column in Quote Loader to this most recent entry so downloading price update info to MD via Quote Loader goes smoothly.
ntence.
