We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

Which version and build of Moneydance are you using?
To check, open Moneydance and select Help --> About Moneydance

Generally you could try the key combination Alt –> Spacebar –> M and use the arrow keys, to see if you can move a missing dialog back on screen.

If you are running Moneydance 2022, you could navigate to Extensions->Manage Extensions and install the Toolbox.

Launch Toolbox and navigate to Toolbox Options (on top left corner) and select -
Update Mode->Yes->Do Back Up Now (recommended) Finally choose the Menu General Tools Update Functions-> Reset Window Display Settings.
You may want to restart Moneydance for the changes to be applied.

Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Version 2022 4

MD puts dialogs & child windows onto the primary monitor where they can
then be mouse dragged (or [Alt+Space] | [M]ove | [Arrows]) to a
secondary monitor. Closing and reopening MD yields mother and child
windows again opening on the primary monitor until each is moved to a
secondary monitor. After that the relocated children will reopen where
they were last moved. Shutting down MD and restarting again (or OS
reboot) puts everything back onto the primary monitor.

Your toolbox walk-thru yields the same results as above after completion
and a program restart / OS reboot.

I surmise, without much certainty, that MD is somehow overriding Windows
10 OS positioning functions in some way - programs that have no
awareness of the possibility of multiple monitors (from Windows 95!)
reappear on the last monitor they were closed from.

This is NOT, by any means, a "Deal Breaker - it's just annoying. To the
point that I've written keyboard macro's to trigger and move dialogs to
my preferred monitor - that I use exclusively with MD.

Thanks again and any further guidance would be greatly appreciated.

cascaddantag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/552285822022-08-03T19:47:46Z2022-08-03T19:47:47ZMD can't handle multiple monitors

I think you will find that this behaviour is intentional. It was changed with ver 2022.3 (4073)
See change log at link below.

There used to be an endless stream of folk complaining that the prog had locked. Folk would attach a 2nd monitor and usually put the Reconcile Window on it. Later they removed the monitor which resulted in cries for help here that the program was unresponsive.

Fellow user

jeff_ltag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/552285822022-08-03T21:27:43Z2022-08-03T21:27:43ZMD can't handle multiple monitors

Thanks. I totally understand how that came to pass. Been there myself...
Losing a window on a cluttered desktop ain't fun.

cascaddan
