Downoad doesn't run
I have a 64 bit i5 running Windows 7. Downloaded the 64 bit installer but I can't get it to run from the "Downloads" window. The 32 bit installer does seem to work as I tried starting it later and then canceled when it started installing. I paid, now I want to play.

Hi jpmcl,
It's possible that your processor is 64bit, but that your version of Windows is 32bit. Can you check to see what you're running by right clicking on "Computer", then going to properties, then checking under the "System type:" line--this will tell you whether you're running a 32bit or 64bit version of Windows. If you're using a 64bit version, it's possible that your download got corrupted, in which case I would recommend trying to download again. If you're using the 32bit version, then I would suggest proceeding with the install with the 32bit version that you downloaded.

It's a 64 bit system. Plus, I've downloaded it three separate times
without success. I'm not a complete idiot.
Would it be possible to get a DVD with the program on it? If it can't
be made to work, obviously I'll need to get a refund.

jpmcl,
When you say "Downloads window" are you referring to your Downloads folder, or the Downloads popup window when your Web Browser begins downloading things?
If you are talking about the Downloads popup window, then go to your actual Downloads folder and double click on the Moneydance.exe file from there.

Windows 7 came in two flavors, 32-bit and 64-bit.
Although your computer may be a 64-bit system, Windows 7 could be 32-bit.
And, since the 32-bit version of Moneydance began installing whereas the 64-bit version fails to start, then your install of Windows 7 is 32-bit and not 64-bit.

OK, I installed the 32 bit (pissed off at microsoft for even selling a
32bit) but cannot find any icon on the desktop, nor find the location of
the application executable. So how can I add a shortcut to the
desktop? Surely the exe. isn't stored under Program Data??

Downloads pop-up. But I reran it and discovered the problem. Norton
Anti-virus deleted it as soon as it finished scanning it based on it's
"reputation." A copy of the explanation page is attached. Perhaps my
system is 64 bit after all, but the problem is in the software. Could
you review and comment onthe attached page?

Attached is info on curing this problem, if that is in fact what it is.

Thanks for this information. It appears that we evidently have to reauthorize not Moneydance as a whole, but each new build of our program with Symantec to prevent the download from being automatically deleted. While we'll start this process immediately, it look like it can be "several weeks" before the update takes effect, according to https://submit.symantec.com/whitelist/isv/. This means that anyone using Norton and Moneydance will never be able to install the latest builds without encountering this problem until several weeks have passed after we release the update. Frankly, this seems like an excessively paranoid security program that is actually preventing users from installing important updates to their programs, which is itself a security risk.
Is there a way to turn off this WS.Reputation.1 aspect of the security program? I'm not able to find any information about this on the Norton website.
Does Norton seem to have "quarantined" the Moneydance file? If so, can you take the following steps to unquarantine it? https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v6200368...
If that works, please let us know, as I would like to make a FAQ about this issue, since I imagine many people will have this problem.

No, they deleted it. This is the first time I've encountered this Norton
action, so apparently othersoftware companies pre-submit their upgrades
to Norton, or Norton has some sort of sweetheart deal with preferred
customers. There could be anti-trust or interference with contract
issues here. As it turns out, I happen to be a lawyer, and after all my
years of coping with Microsoft's disdain for its customers, which is
apparently shared by a few of the other big software companies, I
wouldn't mind suing them myself.

I some times think having all my online accounts compromised would be
preferable to jumping through the countless security hoops.
