Every transactions must have a category item, either it is a category or it is an account it cannot be nothing.

An account will have a default category for transactions but if a transactions is entered/downloaded that is similar to an existing confirmed transaction then that category will be suggested.

Moneydance has to have an item in the category field because the program is based on accounting principles which means every transaction must have a source and a destination. The source is the account you have entered it into the destination is the category or account you set in the category field.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/556913122022-09-10T18:27:44Z2022-09-10T18:27:45ZDisable autofill

I see that many have the same complaint. It is not clear yet if there is a
palatable solution. If I cannot find one, then I will remove this program
and make sure to have no one I know ever use it.

I hate to point out the obvious, but, no, every item does not need a
category. GAAP rules require it for filings. This is for home consumption.
Categories are not suggested, they are enforced, mostly incorrectly, and
make a mess of account maintenance. I should be able to choose to
categorize only the items that I want to track. At some point, the
appearance is that I created a null category. The appearance is also that I
assigned it to every account that I download as default. For years, it
seems to have mostly worked. Apparently, in a newer version that I now use,
the algorithm has been updated to always ignore the default, thus making it
not the default.

In Quicken, Intuit/Microsoft being a company that I hate with all of my
soul, simply has a null, or uncategorized category. They also allow some
level of setting what will be the category for transactions. Before I am
forced to go back to quicken, please allow disable of autofill, or allow
default to always be the default, without regard to what the program
perceives is a category it could "suggest".

Respectfully,
