Exporting transaction tag data to excel
Hello
I have been using Moneydance on and off for a few years in the UK. I've recently started to use it to run a small business. I enter all my various bank account data into Moneydance. I( rely on the categorisations and bank reconciliation parts of the app to have confidence in my data. I then create a detailed Income and Expense report and generate a report listing all transactions for only the appropriate categories I want to monitor for my business. I save this data set as a csv file and import it into an excel sheet. From there, I turn the single-entry Moneydance data set into a double-entry set of financial statements. I obviously need Moneydance categories for capex and opex to make this work, but given the simple nature of my business the balance sheet balances out without a problem.
I typically have about 250 entries per month for the business and only a tenth of that for my personal use which are all entered into Moneydance.
I would love to use the tag feature in Moneydance to track project costs in my business - however, there is no mechanism to generate a detailed report itemising every transaction with tag data. The only transaction tag data that features in Moneydance reports is agglomerated, and so does not work for me to input into my excel model. Is there any workaround for this.
Finally, is there any progress with Moneydance and its long awaited development to have UK bank statements sync automatically? This would be a big upside for me.
Hopefully not too windy a discussion / question to generate some interest. I do love this product!
regards
Toby

I don't think you are the only member here who wishes it was possible to report by tag properly including a full listings report subtotalled by tag. This has been mentioned many times.
I guess all we can do is hope!

You can extract your transactions to csv (for excel), including tags, using the extension extract_data: option 'Account Register transactions'. Let me know if if works for you?

Hello Stuart
At the risk of being gushing - i am so grateful to you for having written (I presume) and posted this extension and then to have told me about it. It's perfect - I think! I've just created a csv file with all the data I need, spanning different accounts and categories, but using your extension to pull out the data i need to then feed my excel double entry "model". I haven't yet updated my excel file to pick up the new columns and formatting from the csv file from your extension, but I don't believe it will be a problem. All the tags are neatly labelled in square brackets, and I'm looking forward to being able to better track project costs with the new information. Outstanding tool - very grateful!
best regards
Toby

👍 😃 You’re welcome. Glad it helps. If you think of any ‘improvements’ to it that could make it more useful, shout.
