Clearing memo from downloaded transaction doesn't "stick"
I typically reserve the 'memo' line for my own comments about a transaction. When I review an Unconfirmed downloaded transaction, I like to clear out the memo that comes in with the downloaded item, such as: "Kroger USD place in store Shops:Supermarkets and Groceries 327". But when I then choose to "confirm" the current transaction, the memo field comes back - it doesn't stay blank.
Would you please accept a bug report to preserve the user's choice to clear out the memo field on a downloaded transaction, and leave it blank on the final register entry?
A similar thing happens if I hand-enter the transaction without a memo field value, and then choose the "merge" option - though I suppose with a name like "merge" it's not too unexpected; but it's still un-desired behavior.

+1 from me.
Perhaps as a configurable option in preferences "Preserve blank edited comments on download/merge" so existing folk who prefer this behaviour can keep it but others can get control?

Three months later - any progress? any feedback on the planned fix? It is a real pain having to fix all the downloaded matches.

I think the only option you could have is a Use downloaded Memo Field yes/no type of option, the software is not going to know if an edit has been made.
For just downloaded transactions I think the only thing you could do today is first confirm the transaction then clear the memo field.

I agree. It’s a real PITA and needs fixing.

I really like the suggestion of a yes/no option to always or never use the downloaded memo field. But the software certainly does (or could) know if an edit has been made - once you edit, the button options for accepting it into the register change, to something like “confirm current version” and “confirm download version”.
Regardless of HOW it’s fixed, the point remains that a lot of people “me too’d” this post, and it seems like such a relatively easy kind of change to make. So can someone from MD please let us know if you’ve seen this and if you’re willing to add it to the enhancements todo list?

I would not like another button for downloaded transactions. This would just slow down my work flow and not add anything that I need. If I don't have a memo then I am fine with the downloaded info.
Remembering the deletion of a memo is also problematic. If you delete the memo but later do want it back. Add another dialog and or setting for setting the memo field to pristine?
Instead of deleting the memo field, select it and press space rather than delete. This will prevent the overwriting with a downloaded memo. It is a signal that you have overwritten the memo. It is easy to undo. It can be done in batch mode.

Just came here looking for an answer to this. I just started with MoneyDance+, and the resulting download put all these messy comments in the memo field. There needs to be a way prevent these downloaded memos from being entered in the users registry.

@msunderlage, the download merely reflects the information provided by the bank or brokerage. Sometimes the comments are "messy" and sometimes they are "useful". This is not something that could be figured out by an AI.
However, you can select all the downloaded items and then right click and do a "batch change" on the memo field to delete it.

just a user - @sth, I understand your position, but I hadn't downloaded for over a week, and the inundation of the memo fields is overwhelming. I see your suggestion of "just hit a blank", but most (all?) of the memo data is irrelevant. At minimum, an option to say "ignore this data" would save me hours over time.
So +1 from me as well. Adding a setting should not be hard.
And if not that, just fix the BUG (and it is a bug) where clearing out the memo field is transient vs. sticky, requiring a "space" instead of it just staying gone.
Heck, even Stuart (Mr. Toolbox) wants this.
