Pop-up windows come up blank
I've been seeing an issue where a pop-up window (e.g. a split, or a reminder) comes up with no contents, just the bare window. Once it happens, it will continue to happen on every pop-up until you quit and restart. One impact is that you also get a bare pop-up during the backup on exit, so you really can't see what's going on until that goes away. Has anyone else seen this? Seems to show up after a few days of working fine. Not a big deal, just a minor annoyance.

when it happens again, go to Help/Console and post the contents here.

Make sure all your extensions are up to date, then restart MD.
6 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on 27 Jan, 2023 01:38 PM
and go to help/console and upload that here...

Well, I upgraded to Moneydance 2022.6 (4097) and it's still happening, that Pop-up windows come up blank. I also deleted all extensions except FIND and REPLACE and that doesn't show an update button so I presume it's updated. What else can I do? Also, not sure what you mean that when it happens again, go to Help/Console and post the contents here.

Moneydance has a top row menubar with menu options. There is a menu called Help. Try clicking that. Do you see an option in that menu called Console (or something roughly worded like that)? Click that. Then you will get the console debug messages. Click the save button. Save the file. Remember where you saved it. Come back
To this thread online. Attach the saved console log.

I had to restart because the console window was blank so maybe that data won't show the problem but the Console file is attached anyway.

So was this console file after the problem, or after a restart? If the latter, then it’s no good.
So if the blank screen happens again then force quit moneydance and find errlog.txt on disk (before you restart moneydance) and upload that file here.

Yes, the console window was blank so I restarted, then saved and sent the console window to you. Since that's no good, I did the force-quit and did a search for errlog.txt but nothing exists by that name. I did look in the Library > Moneydance > Data > Documents, and found "hs_err_pid31191.log" (attached). Is this it? If not, please send me the path to find "errlog.txt."

If you're using Mac OS X, it should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:
~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt
or:
~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt
If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder, open Finder, select Go -> Go to Folder -> from the menu bar, and copy and paste in:
~/Library
This should pull up your local Library folder.

Just to be clear, both the console window and the errlog.txt file automatically clear every time the program is relaunched. If you can find and send one or the either immediately after getting one of these window issues, it should capture any error messages in there. But if you have already restarted the program, don't bother sending either, since the errors would have been cleared. Wait until the issue happens again, then send the logs.

Stuart & shiner03 --
Here’s something odd. Looking at my machine, if I bring up the Console Window, it indeed shows the file under
~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/…
However, that path doesn’t appear in the Finder — it’s just missing, can’t see it at all, doesn’t exist. BUT, if I open up a Terminal window, navigate down to ~/Library/Containers and do an
ls -ld com.inf*
there it is. It appears to show up in Finder as ~/Library/Containers/Moneydance, almost as if it were a symbolic link. I’ve never seen that behavior before, but there it is.
Anyway, if you’re still looking in a Finder window, try
~/Library/Containers/Moneydance/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/
Hope that helps.

just a user - Apple hides a lot of files. If you haven't "exposed" them (unhidden them), you won't see them unless you explicitly point to them.

@david.d - it’s a magic / internal alias. The real / physical ‘com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX’ on disk becomes ‘Moneydance’ in Finder. It’s to do with the way that the app alias / packages / names itself.

Also CMD-SHIFT-DOT (that’s a period or ‘.’) will show hidden files..

Thanks, Stuart! Never encountered anything like it before, despite 40 years in the business. But my knowledge is old, haven’t kept up to date with the tech.
