Have recent versions of Moneydance lost the ability to set custom per-currency base currencies?
Greetings,
I rely on Moneydance's ability to (a) create new currencies and (b) specify the "base currency" in which that currency is priced.
For example, in the screenshots attached here, you can see that I have a custom "Bitcoin" currency whose base currency is USD, even though my overall base currency throughout the rest of Moneydance is EUR.
In more recent versions—including but not limited to the latest 2022.5 version—it seems that Moneydance has lost the ability to set this custom base currency when creating new currencies.
To illustrate this problem, I've attached two screenshots—one from v2021 (2006) and one from v2022.5—in which I try to create a new currency called "My New Currency". In the former version, you can see where I'm able in the creation screen (and later in the edit screen as well) to specify a custom base currency. In the latter version, however, this base currency drop-down is missing and I've been unable to find its equivalent anywhere else in the UI.
Note that currencies that were created in an older version of Moneydance still retain that base currency in the newer versions. As you can see in one of the screenshots, v2022.5 still respects the custom "US Dollar" base currency I assigned to my custom "Bitcoin" currency, but I created that currency long ago in an older version.
Is this per-currency custom base currency functionality still somehow available and I'm missing where it is? Or is it possible that this functionality has actually gotten dropped? In any case I do hope I can get access to it again!
Also: is there a custom Apple M1 Moneydance build out there? I didn't see it on the downloads page.
Many thanks!

just a user - can't answer your currency question, but there is no M1 or universal build released yet. There are ways to get a version to "play" with - but it really isn't ready for prime time yet.
As to when it will be ready, "just a user" can't answer that question - probably only Sean can.

Yes, that screen has changed to prevent what you are trying to do on Currencies. For new currencies, that popup will not appear. For old currencies where the relative currency was set, then the popup will appear with a very limited list (of max two relative currs). If I am correct, then if you click on BitCoin/USD then in the popup selection field, there will only be USD and your base currency listed... I.e all the other currencies are not listed there.. As soon as you select your base (Euros), then then next time you edit that currency, the popup list will have gone.
The underlying design of MD is (and has always been for a looooong time) that currencies can ONLY be relative to the base currency.. However, securities can be relative to a currency (and then that currency is relative to base).
The screen was changed to fix accidental selection of a non base relative currency on currencies (the reason being that currs and securities are all really currencies under the covers reusing the same screen)..

PS. Many people actually have bitcoin setup as a security rather than a currency. That way you can probably do what you require?

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi cbeams
I understand the issue you have raised and Stuart has explained why things have changed in resent builds.
But I am not sure I understand your objective. If it is to obtain say the exchange rate for Bitcoins relative to your base currency of Euros then you can do that directly no need for a intermediate stage involving US Dollars.
The extension Quote loader can obtain exchange rate and how to do this with cryptocurrencies is explained in one of the PDF’S attached to this post https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4914-the...
See example screen shot.
The PDF also explains how to track cryptocurrencies as an investment.
Hope this helps
