New Version Upgrade not working

So when I log into MoneyDance, it tells me that there is a new version available and to go to the website to download which I did. However, it does not seem to be working. Now, even after installing the update it still tells me there is a new version available and also after the install a file called "error" is created on my desktop which probably means it did not install correctly. Any thoughts? The Error file is attached.

Thanks

    Scott,

If you're still getting the "there is a new version available" message, it is likely that you're actually opening an older version of Moneydance. Could you please let me know what OS, version of Java, and version of Moneydance you are running? This information is available in the Help->Console Window menu item, and will help us to better diagnose the issue and interpret the error log.

    Angie-

OK- I think I have the issue of the latest version now fixed....but in the process I seem to have created another problem.

I simply downloaded the latest version right from the md web site. When I opened it I had to point it to my md file which I did. When i did that it asked me something about changing the file to the new md format and archiving the old file. I said yes. But now I can't seem to find the file. It's not in the folder that it used to be in.

Bottom line is I have it working fine (I think) on one computer- but I share that same file on 2 computers and I can't find the main file to open from the other computer. help!!
I see that Dropbox may be an option as well...I have Dropbox on both computers but couldn't figure out how to do it. I used to just have the main file stores in a folder on Dropbox and both computers were pointed to that file. I just can't seem to find that main file now since it asked me about upgrading to the new version and archiving the old file.

    Thanks

    Angie...
This may be a bit confusing...hopefully this helps..

Right now I have md (I think ) properly up and working on one computer. But I have no idea where the main file is that it's pulling from. But, it does appear to be working. I have another computer that I would like to use to work off that same md file...I just don't know where the file is.

It looks like this upgrade is using a new file format and that may be part of my problem when it changed the format of the file I think it got moved as well

Again, Dropbox is an option for me..

    Thanks
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
If you picked Convert and Import instead of Convert then the program not only Converted the file into a new format but also brought it into the internal library. Fortunately it is easy to move it out of the library to a location of your choosing. Please see the directions below.

Moneydance is putting new files into a specific location by default and if you selected 'Convert and Import' during an upgrade into this location as well. If you want to move your files to a different location after creating them please do the following:
    1. Go to Help->Show Documents Folder.
    2. Close Moneydance.
    3. Drag or 'Cut' yourfilename.moneydance file bundle to the location of your choosing. Don't copy it, you don't want to leave a duplicate copy behind.
    4. Open Moneydance and on the Welcome Screen use 'Open Other' to point Moneydance towards your files new location.

For a longer explanation please look here.

Please let us know if you have any more questions.
    Sincerely,

    Dropbox
    Handybank Android Sync

Please help, minor annoyance but growing tired of seeing it.

    Jon-

    Thanks.

I now see the folder but I'm still not clear which on is the mail file?
When I click on the folder I have 2 folders ("attach" and "checkpt") and another file called root.mdinternal.
There is nothing here that resembles my old main file which was simply ScottMD.

Thank you again for any further help

    Scott

    Hi Scott,
The folder you want is the folder that attach and checkpt are in, it is probably called ScottMD.Moneydance.
You want to move the whole thing.

    Dennis,
The fact that you are seeing this upgrade message likely is a sign that you are still opening the old version of the application.
The latest version is 862, can you tell me if that is what it says for you? (Look under Moneydance -> About Moneydance or Help -> About Moneydance)

    Hello Dennis,

It sounds like you have installed the update, but are still opening the older version of the program. Can you please go to your Program Files folder and see if you have multiple versions of Moneydance installed?

There is only 1 instance of Moneydance running on my machine and it is 2011r2 (803) as I indicated. No multiple versions present. If I should save the database and reinstall the latest version let me know. As I mentioned, minor nuisance but not potentially worth breaking my Drpbox sync and Handybank Android app that works seamlessly.

    Yes, I have the folder.

My question was this...my old file was named ScottMD. That no longer exists. I just want to make sure that the root.mdinternal is the main file that I should be pointing my other computer to.

    Thanks

Jon, thanks. Should I use the uninstaller package first that is part of my current environment and then do a clean install since I have an older version? Will this help get the newest version on there?

    Hi Dennis,
I wouldn't worry about running the uninstaller.
Do you know if the installer is still in your downloads folder, you could just run that again without having to download it again.

Nope Jon, same issue. Maybe I should "Install to a different directory" as opposed to "Update existing installation" when prompted during setup?

If you do a search for 'Moneydance' on your computer do multiple applications show up? Do any of them report to be version 2012.5?
