How are you restoring? Using MD Menu, File, restore backup..? Or using Time Machine or something?

When you say 'I declined to set this file up to resume syncing.
'..., do you mean that you UNTICKED retain sync settings (when using File/Restore Backup)?

Were there two sync copies to choose from; are you sure you chose the right one?

I don't think this is a problem

Old MD+ account info (4) differs from new MD+ account info (4)

I would start again..
- On Macbook, MD, File/New and create a blank dataset.

On iMac, before you do anything else, toolbox, top right, open MD folder, open sync folder. Copy the location and keep it open in Finder...

On iMac, File/Restore backup, UNTICK retain sync settings.

On iMac, For the hell of it, run toolbox, advanced mode, force reset sync settings.

Switch back to finder and delete all the loooong number sync folders sitting in the iCloud sync location.

Switch back to MD on iMac, restart app

On iMac, now do your md+ download on all accounts... Reconcile, merge, whatever.. Make sure the results are good.

Only now, switch over to MacBook, file, new, open sync copy, select the sync copy...

start checking / testing....

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/566313122022-11-04T16:12:51Z2022-11-04T16:16:20ZMD+ accounts munged after restore from backup

Stuart,

Thanks for the quick reply! Much appreciated,

Using MD Menu.

That's exactly what I meant.

I'm not sure what you're asking. There were MD backups on both computers. The one on the MacBook was the most recent backup before I screwed up my register. This meant it came from the 'synced' machine not the 'original' machine. I have no idea if that matters or if that means this file was 'secondary' as opposed to 'primary'.

I copied that back from the MacBook to the iMac and did the restore on the iMac.

If you are asking which file did I choose when I turned on sync for the MacBook: then the answer is yes, I'm sure I chose the correct one. But there were several choices corresponding to older account files that were offered.

I'll try the steps you recommended shortly. Thanks again,.

jgreenb2tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/566313122022-11-04T18:55:59Z2022-11-04T18:55:59ZMD+ accounts munged after restore from backup

@Stuart: I've gotten to the point where my iMac is restored and reconciled. I'll need to wait for more Plaid transactions to become available before I can test that and then sync.

It was coincidental but this incident happened right at my usual reconciliation period. The reconcile revealed a batch of missed transaction right at the switch from OFX to MD+ in my Chase accounts. I do not think this has anything to do with the backup or download process but I'll know in another day (or after a new set of transactions is available). Only then will I attempt to resync the Macbook.

Thanks again for your help.

jgreenb2
