To do this, you have to rename your config.dict file.

Please take note of your license key and save it, separately as you will need to re-register later.

If you're using Mac OS, the file should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:

~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

or:

~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder, open Finder and select Go --> Go to Folder --> and copy and paste in exactly the following:

~/Library

This will pull up your local Library folder, and you can navigate to the locations above.

Once you've found your config.dict file, close Moneydance ensure it's closed fully. Then rename the file to config2.dict

Once you've done this, open Moneydance again. It will appear as though you've just installed the program for the first time, so you'll see the Welcome window.
Your data file should be listed on the right of the window. If not, choose 'Open Other' and navigate to your data file.
When you're viewing your data file, choose Help --> Register Moneydance and input your license key.

If you run into any problems, you can simply close Moneydance and rename the original file back to config.dict. Then open Moneydance again to restore your original settings.

Been using MD since 2008, never seen this behavior before. System=Win10Pro, up to date on all updates. Core i7, ample memory and storage. When I click on the MD icon in the taskbar, I get the "enter password" popup, I enter the password and it accepts it. Then after a very long wait, I don't see MD open, but the MD taskbar icon changes to indicate an active app. However, when I hover the mouse over the icon, I see a postage stamp of a blank window, and it will not open. It will, however, close via the taskbar or the windows task mgr, and then I get the normal "backup up moneydance data file' popup for a few seconds.

I can't use it like this, I can't get in to it to view my license key or to check on settings or preferences I want to make clear that I successfully used MD on Dec 3. I started it, used it, and closed it at least twice that day without incident. I next tried to use it on Dec 5, and got the results described above, even though nothing has changed on my computer or my MD installation. I'm still having this problem today Dec 7 (was AFK all day yesterday).

Help, please? Any and all advice welcome.

ds4854tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/570261222022-12-07T22:02:24Z2022-12-07T22:02:24ZMoneydance won't open

As per above, close MD, find config.dict, rename or delete it. Then restart MD

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/570261222022-12-08T00:52:32Z2022-12-08T00:52:32ZMoneydance won't open

Well, ok, that worked up to a point. Found the config.dict file in C:\Users<username>.moneydance. Renamed it config2.dict. MD did then open and allow me to select my data file, accepted the password for it, and as predicted says that I need to enter a license key. However, it won't accept the license key I have on file. It won't go out of demo mode.
I tried renaming the original file back from config2.dict to config.dict and restarting, but same exact result.

So what next? Can someone who works for IK please look up my current license key and communicate it to me via PM? Or do I have to go buy a whole new license to fix this?

ds4854tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/570261222022-12-08T01:22:59Z2022-12-08T01:22:59ZMoneydance won't open

You can have your license key emailed to you by using the lost key field on the following page:

https://infinitekind.com/purchase

Licenses are version specific, I can usually tell what version of Moneydance a license is by the characters to the left of the hyphen, this part of the key does not disclose your license.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/570261222022-12-08T01:54:34Z2022-12-08T01:54:34ZMoneydance won't open

Thanks!
