I'll assume that you already know how to download the csv file from Discover and that you know how to navigate to it and select it from the File > Import menu file browser.

So we should jump right into setting up the importer.
On the first screen, set the options as follows:
Import to: Discover
Field Delimiter: (comma)
Date Format: Month Day Year
Decimal Point: (period)
Tick the option to 'Automatically Merge Duplicates'
Click 'Next'

Set the fields on the next screen as follows:
Date
Ignore
Description
Debit Amount
Category

Use the 'Fewer Fields' button (if necessary) so that ONLY the 5 required fields are utilized.

Click 'Finish'

The question that remains however is... Do you really want to use Discover's generic Categories?

Or...

As you import and confirm transactions, Moneydance will 'learn' the Categories that YOU decide to use.

There is no right answer, it's a personal preference.

One other point I'd like to make is that the CSV Importer extension is more robust that the built-in Moneydance importer. If you intend to download & import from Discover on a regular basis, you should consider using the CSV Importer extension.

I did it the wrong way and then it was a pain to fix all of the transactions!

bretttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/575565122023-01-30T18:12:04Z2023-01-30T18:12:04ZCorrect sequence for CSV download from Discover

Hi brett,

As you've discovered, there's no room for error. ; )

As I suggested to Denis, if you're going to import from Discover on a regular basis, you may want to take a look at the CSV Importer extension. One of the clear benefits of doing so is that the CSV Importer allows for the creation of custom file readers. This provides the benefit of the field settings being recorded and remembered for each import.

If you're interested and need a hand setting it up, let me know and I'll try to help with that.
