Unconfirmed status
I regularly download and match transactions from my bank every couple of days. After matching, the transactions change from solid filled circles to unfilled as they should. I choose not to mark them as "Cleared" because I clear when reconciling.
That still leaves manually entered transactions that have no circle, no status, until I download and match them. I like to look at my register and see the transactions that have not yet been downloaded and matched with the bank. I would think that the UNCONFIRMED in the filter bar should show me that, but it presents me with a blank register. Uncleared button shows the lines that are not matched with the bank, but also shows the the ones with hollow blue circles (Matched). Am I missing something here? Just migrated from Quicken and their terminology was different, but the uncleared in their register showed unmatched transactions. Is there a filter I can create to show only unmatched & uncleared, or a way to mark a transaction as Unconfirmed?

The confirmation system is just for downloaded and imported transactions in order to allow you to accept them, assign categories and merge with existing transactions, these are not activities that would be expected to occur with manually entered transactions.

But shouldn't a manually entered transaction be UNconfirmed until it is confirmed?
It has no status at all.
Seems that the filter should show it as that, so that I could view and confirm manual entries after downloading instead of viewing the entire register of everything since last months reconciliation.
After reading again, I get what you mean. The Unconfirmed is only for matching downloaded transactions. But isn't there a filter to show unmatched transactions?

No it is for matching transaction if you are a person that also manually enters some transactions, for all users that download it is for setting the correct category and then saying yep I am happy with the transaction, please show it as completed in the register - empty blue circle, which also indicates a downloaded transaction. Manual transaction do not need to show an intermediate and final status in this regard since they are considered final when entered. Over the life of the process you should end up with only transactions that have a blue circle, and after reconciliation also with a green diamond.
Unmatched transaction will not have a blue dot or circle since that would indicate they have been manually entered and have not been merged with a downloaded transaction.

Thanks for your reply. I do get it, but I don't just enter SOME manual transactions. I enter practically all of them either manually or through the Transaction Reminders (Monthly Payments) such as Electric , Gas , Starlink and everything else. Then I merge them every day or two with the downloaded (with MD+) bank data.
Not being able to display only unmatched just makes it harder to organize. I despise Quicken but may have to return to their extortion plan, just in order to keep things straight. At least I could filter the register under "uncleared" which in their software meant just that, Transactions that had not been matched with bank transactions. Thanks again. There really is no sense in staying on here arguing how I THINK it should work. It is what it is. I'll just give it some time and try to adjust or switch back to Q.

just a user
I do understand your quandary. I often put in "note" transactions manually, which of course never get confirmed via downloads. So they never get a blue dot or a blue circle.
I also enter almost everything manually, and then depend on downloads to blue circle these, or sometimes add a new entry (omg - that's right I bought that with apple pay and didn't have a receipt to enter! Bingo!)
That said, reconciling is mostly monthly, so even on a frequently used credit card, just a scroll or two away - if it hasn't been downloaded (other than notes, etc.) then I have to question what *I* entered, as the account is currently giving me a "freebee" (i.e. they don't have it for themselves) - I personally tend to redate them to see if they will someday come in, with the original date thrown into the memo.
The point is - no I've never tried to find a filter for such, as with 35 years of data - MOST of my entries predate Moneydance, and the filter would show 99% of my entries as "not blue circle". I can fairly easily scroll through the last month or so, and by eye find what hasn't been confirmed.
That's my method - may not work for you. That said, you are going to make me go see what the filters can or cannot do, just because I'm now curious.

This comment was split into a new private discussion: Moneydance +
I have Moneydance+ setup for most accounts. The initial import worked just fine, however, downloads since do not appear. I know I have new transactions based on the bank web site, and they are past the Pending state.

@dwg
Hmmmm - by whose decision and what accounting/Mondeydance rule? It takes NO consideration for those of us who do not have the luxury of downloading transactions either because we live in countries (I'm in Australia, but Australia is not alone) where it is often imply not available or MD / Plaid have chosen not to implement it yet. As a consequence, MANY transactions are entered in a perfectly legitimate but unfinished manner well before they can be "considered final".
Let me offer a use case as a for instance:
My electricity bill (and many others) comes monthly for a variable and unpredictable amount. It is auto-entered via a reminder which - at the time it is auto-entered by MD - is (logically and practically) unconfirmed, but not able to be marked as such.
Myself and others have long requested the ability to have reminders created so that they can then be auto-entered as "unconfirmed" and I have heard no logical reasoning other than "we've always done it this way" to suggest why that would be "wrong". As a consequence, my workaround to make up for a MD limitation is to add a (hopefully unique) character sequence to all of my variable Reminder transactions (I use @!@) so that I can report on them with a saved report and update them via manual confirmation process that is MUCH more cumbersome and tedious than using the built in confirmation process (which IK refuse to make available to those of us in the mostly silent minority). And believe me, it results in me mentally cursing IK every time I need to do it - i.e. every MD session several times a week. There can be no logical reason for NOT adding the "Enter as unconfirmed" flag ability to Auto reminders, and probably also to the transaction entry screen, if examined objectively.
I would again request IK to look at this enhancement request which exists in the system (multiple times, I believe).
Posted in the spirit of improving MD for ALL users (tinged with a modicum of frustration), not just for those users who can auto-download and only need "one-shot" entry and are consequently blind to other use-cases.

I agree completely that this is a needed feature, or even just the ability to FLAG a transaction for later review. Like you, I have many bills that are variable (Electric, Satellite TV, Phone)
I have started using the "Mark as Reconciling" , just to put a noticeable marker with the transaction in the register so that I know that I need to revisit, and to be sure and remove the reconciling status before doing the actual month end reconciliation. Some may say why not wait until the transaction clears your bank, and just enter as a new transaction. I would say because these are Monthly bills that I have in the Reminders catalog. I don't want to clutter the reminder calendar with a bunch of "Overdue" flags, and usually enter them on the due date or occasionally a day or two prior. I think an option to Flag a transaction or Mark as unconfirmed would be helpful.

I strongly support @kstev99 's request for a feature to flag transactions/ mark as unconfirmed in order to show all unmatched entries, whether entered manually or by import.
I have recently started using MD, having been a long time user of YNAB3&4. (I did not opt in to YNAB's cloud-based subscription format). I am enjoying MD and appreciate its versatility. I am quickly getting the hang of it, but have also encountered the issue that @kstev99 refers to above. I too enter many of my transactions manually and then check them against regular imports of OFX from the bank - the only way possible from my bank. I could, perhaps, start using a tag to indicate manually entered transactions but a directly visible flag would be far more efficient.
BTW just a user, and just for fyi - I too am from the southern hemisphere, South Africa.
