I went through the usual setup for a synced data file (via Dropbox connection), granting permission from DropBox, entering the passcode in the dialog box in Moneydance. I've done this several times before without issue. But this time, I started the process around 8 in the morning, and when I got home from work nine hours later there was still no progress from the progress bar (see attached image).

I checked in the Documents folder, and I found a folder with the usual weird filename, with subfolders entitled "Safe" and "Tmp," with a "key" file at the root of the folder. The total size of the folder was 16.3 MB, which is a bit smaller than the data file on my other computers which is about 19 MB. The timestamps on files in subfolders are all within about ten minutes from when it started syncing. So it seems like it bailed pretty early in the sync process. In the past syncing a new datafile has taken maybe fifteen minutes, so I'm not sure why the process still hadn't completed nine hours later.

erictag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577327022023-01-28T02:30:21Z2023-01-28T02:30:21ZCan't open a file synced via Dropbox connection with install of Moneydance on New MacBook Pro

just a user - have you tried Dropbox Folders instead?

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577327022023-01-28T05:22:35Z2023-01-28T05:22:35ZCan't open a file synced via Dropbox connection with install of Moneydance on New MacBook Pro

From what I understand, I would have to completely rebuild my data files on all four computers that sync to this file. And since sync is working on the other four computers, it seems an iffy proposition that it would even fix the problem.

erictag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577327022023-01-28T05:33:31Z2023-01-28T05:33:31ZCan't open a file synced via Dropbox connection with install of Moneydance on New MacBook Pro

You can mix Dropbox connection and Dropbox folder in a single solution that is not a problem. However as you purchased from the app store Dropbox Folder is not available to you so it is mute point.

I suspect the central Dropbox folder could do with some maintenance, not something I have done recently so someone else will need to walk you through this process.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577327022023-01-30T17:48:26Z2023-01-30T17:48:26ZCan't open a file synced via Dropbox connection with install of Moneydance on New MacBook Pro

This morning, I tried syncing to my datafile again via Dropbox connection, and I was successful (still downloading transactions going back to 2010, but that appears to be going smoothly).

The difference could be due to a different internet connection: here at work we have a 100 mbps fiber connection. At home I have a 70 mbps DSL connection. You wouldn't think a 40% connection would make that big a difference, but maybe it does.

Alternatively it could have been due to the usual volume of network traffic involved in any new Mac, with all kinds of background iCloud sync for stuff like photo libraries, mail, documents, Music, etc. Possibly with all that going on in the background, the connection to Dropbox just dropped.

erictag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/577327022023-01-30T18:42:21Z2023-01-30T18:42:21ZCan't open a file synced via Dropbox connection with install of Moneydance on New MacBook Pro

switch to dropbox folder - much "faster" on slow internet

use toolbox, advanced mode, force refresh/push sync data to rebuild your sync data so that it "starts" from today and there is no old sync data to process...

Wait at least some length of time (10 minutes or for you maybe more) before bringing up the secondaries to resync with new sync data.
