There files are in due course rolled into the local trunk file, but they are also used to pass the new and changed data to the other machines that are part of the sync set, hence they end up in the shared location, Dropbox for example, for the other systems to take a copy of the files and use them to apply the transactions and changes to their own local trunk file.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/579998322023-02-20T01:29:28Z2023-02-20T01:29:28ZSaving .txn files in Dropbox

This is the expected behavior if you have set up Moneydance to sync with other systems or mobile devices. If that's not what you wanted to do, you can turn this function off in File -> Syncing.

and it still saves .txn files

willyumcrtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/579998322023-02-20T02:47:58Z2023-02-20T02:47:58ZSaving .txn files in Dropbox

Moneydance will still create txn files with the software set to don't sync, but that will be in where you have located your data set. The overall approach to how Moneydance writes transactions and manages them does not change between when you do and don't sync.

If you have the data set set to Don't sync and it is writing to the dropbox folder it suggests that the data set has been moved to the dropbox folder, this is something that never should be done since it runs the risk of corrupting the data.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/579998322023-02-20T07:50:19Z2023-02-20T07:50:19ZSaving .txn files in Dropbox

Thanks! That seemed to help as I moved the file out of Dropbox.

willyumcr
