Need immediate help! In the midst of preparing for tax filing and MD has glitched on me!!!

I am trying to see splits on a transaction, but when I click on the split, MD locks up! I can exit, escape, go to another account. Nothing!

I can find nothing on repairing, etc.

HELLP!!!!!

One thing that comes to mind immediately to mind is that the split window is being rendered off screen. The following notes work through this issue if this is the problem you are experiencing.

Moneydance dialog boxes being invisible is not usual. Moneydance often remembers the last screen position used, even if say you were using a second screen and this screen is no longer connected Moneydance can remember the virtual position.

There are a number of ways to deal with this situation, the suggestions below detail these.

    Windows

    Four solutions are available:

The first two approaches uses standard Windows methods to move a window onscreen.

    1. The traditional approach to moving a window is as follows. Use the Key combination <Alt>-<spacebar> followed by the M key to get access to the resize and move options and to invoke the Move function then use the arrow keys to move the window back onto the visible screen.

    2. Alternatively, if you're using Windows 7 or later, you can try holding down the <Windows> and <Shift> keys, then tap the <left-arrow> or <right-arrow> key, which should move the missing window onto your current monitor.

    3. If you are running at least MD2021.1 then you can install the Toolbox extension, set advanced mode, then use the reset window positions option. This option will keep your other preferences.

If all else fails you can try the fourth approach.

    4. Rename the config.dict file that exists in the .Moneydance folder under your login directory. doing this removes all preferences including the remembered positions, it will be as if Moneydance has just been installed, so you need to open your Data Set as well as re-enter your license key.

    Mac

We present a number of possible solutions here:

    1. For the Mac OS, if a window is off screen the "show all application windows" should work.

This is normally bound to the control-down arrow key but could be remapped in the System Preferences->Keyboard (Short cuts tab, and look at the "Mission Control" application).

    2. You can also try clicking and hold on the MD icon in you task bar, a menu should pop up with the "Show All Windows". This may show the hidden window which could be on another Desktop (or Space as they are called).

    3. If you are running at least MD2021.1 then you can install the Toolbox extension, set advanced mode, then use the reset window positions option. This option will keep your other preferences.

A somewhat similar looking problem on the Mac is having an Invisible window. This can be dealt with as indicated below.

The situation is that you cannot find the window on a Mac yet when you show the window from the dock options “show all windows” you just see a magnified version of the traffic light from the upper left corner.

Yes, this is something that happens on a mac and TIK have yet to find a way around it. Basically the window is set to a tiny size and makes it really hard to find it. Once you find it, using alt+green button will make the window large enough to see. You *should* be able to bring the tiny window to the front by clicking on the traffic light in the show-all-windows. This is a frustrating bug, but unfortunately it seems to be out of Moneydance's control, and TIK have not been able to reproduce it to find a workaround.

You can also try minimizing every other window and see if you can find it, it seems that is often in one of the corners.

    Linux

    Three solutions are available:

The first approach uses a standard method to move a window onscreen.

    1. The traditional approach to moving a window is as follows. Use the Key combination <Alt>-<spacebar> followed by the M key to get access to the resize and move options and to invoke the Move function then use the arrow keys to move the window back onto the visible screen.

    2. If you are running at least MD2021.1 then you can install the Toolbox extension, set advanced mode, then use the reset window positions option. This option will keep your other preferences.

If this does not work you can try this approach.

    3. Rename the config.dict file that exists in the .Moneydance folder under your home directory. doing this removes all preferences including the remembered positions, it will be as if Moneydance has just been installed, so you need to open your Data Set as well as re-enter your license key. If using a file manager you may need to set it to show Hidden Files

Thanks so much! I will definitely keep this info in the event I run into this issue again.
