Space Bar doesn't work on Moneydance - M1 Mac
I have had a problem with Moneydance not recognizing the space bar on my M1 Mac. When I am entering text and need a space between words, the app either highlights the field or jumps to another field. I have found an inconvenient workaround that works and that is to hold down the 'shift' key when I type a space and then a text space results. I do not have this problem on other apps on my M1 and also did not have this problem on Moneydance on my previous Intel based Mac.
Thanks for any assistance.

just a user - all I can contribute is the space bar works as it should on my M1 Mac.
Could you possibly have created a setting (maybe even in Moneydance since it seems unique) that changes how the spacebar operates? Just throwing something out since I can't make it happen.

It is initially a matter of elimination.
The first thing I would consider is the version of Moneydance you are using, older versions use different versions of Java which could be a problem. New versions of macOS and older versions of Moneydance are a known problem point, we have seen it so many times.
I cannot think of Moneydance setting that affects the spacebar, the settings are not at that low a level, the more usual thing would be some macOS system setting, some of those have caused problems over the years.

OK, thanks. Good to know that it works ok on your M1. Seems like it did originally on mine as well so I’m guessing one of my infrequent crashes might have buggered things up. May have to delete the app and download from Apple again.

What version of moneydance are you using - as dwg said, older versions are often broken (sometimes in odd ways) by newer OS versions.
If it is old and you need to upgrade, you might want to consider buying directly from Moneydance rather than buying again from Apple (apple does not have a great upgrade policy, whereas MD upgrades are a better deal)

just a user - no, that's the latest - in fact it's later than the version i get direct from moneydance (2022.6(4097)) - appears there was an extra patch on the mac version.
so - i have nothing new to add. sorry.

Problem finally solved!
If the following M1 Mac OS Setting is set the problem occurs:
Accessibility/Full Keyboard Access/ON
Turning it OFF solves the problem.
I do not know how the setting got turned ON in the first place and am puzzled why it only affects Moneydance but am happy to be finally rid of this issue. BTW, I tested this with another M1 Mac running the same OS (Ventura 13.2.1) and the results were the same.
