problems with deleting splits & highlight & selection of split in autofilled transactions (735/743)
Let's say for the previous transaction @ Acme Foods, there were 4 splits -- category entries in food, medicines, gifts, & electronics. I went shopping again & bought only food, so now I want enter a new transaction with no splits. I have 2 weird things happening here. To start, I type New Transaction, say Acme Foods in the Description, and when I hit tab, the splits automatically appear, with the "description" field of the 1st split highlit / selected. All is good.
Now, if I highlight all 4 of these splits using Shift and at the same time using the mouse to click on the last split line, so all are selected, and then I choose "Delete split," although all 4 are selected, only the first 3 splits are deleted. This seems wrong.
Second problem or suggestion for improvement: If instead after the splits window appears, with the 1st line's description highlit, I click directly on "delete split," just that 1st line goes away, but then none of the 3 remaining splits are highlit / selected. Wouldn't it be handy if say the first or last lines were highlit / selected after a deletion? This would allow for easier deleting, but also for easier changes to the text of the description or the amounts or whatever.
(I am running Windows 2000 Pro service pack 4, Java Version: 1.6.0_17, these "problems" exist in MD 735 & 743.)

Hi Theodora,
Sorry to be late in getting back to you.
Regarding your two suggestions, I could see how the remaining split when you delete all 4 of them could be a bit confusing. I think the reason the developer choose to do it that way is from a program side of things if you deleted the last split it would delete or clear the whole transaction, but I could see how it might be easier that if you deleted all 4 the window would close and it would go back to a normal transaction input ledger.
Regarding your other suggestion, it does indeed seem like that would be useful. I'll mention it to our developer next time we speak.
Thank you for your input, we appreciate thoughtful users who have good ideas on how to improve Moneydance.

I do see how deleting all 4 lines without closing the split window & returning to the normal transaction input ledger would be weird. However, the way it works now is also strange in that whatever is written in the description field of that remaining split disappears once you click on "done."
So if MD is to remain as it is in the sense of not going back to the normal window if you try to delete all splits, I would suggest that whatever remains in the split description field replace the "memo" field in the main transaction window.
I hope this is clear. Since the fieldname "description" is used in several places it gets confusing!
