Moneydance stops reponding to keyboard input

I just upgraded to MD 2023, and am now seeing some strange, very frustrating behavior: I start MD, it works as usual...and then after a short time, it stops responding to the keyboard. I can use the mouse as usual, but MD simply does nothing at all when I type. Shortcut keys, regular typing...it doesn't respond at all to the keyboard.

I've checked in other programs and everything with the keyboard is working (for example, I'm typing this!) but MD simply stops responding. I have to close and restart to make it work.

I'm using Linux and have never had this kind of trouble before, and have been using MD this way for many years. Right now I'm using the Ubuntu 23.04 beta, with openjdk 17.

Suggestions?

Remove all extensions. Restart md. Does the problem reoccur?

    If so, send help/console output.

I did that. Here's the last few lines of the console output. None of it seems at all related to keyboard input.

(I did some light editing of this, stripping out all but the last few lines and somewhat anonymizing the output.)

Please send the whole console. If you like, make this thread private.

Here's an updated file, it's the full console session up to the point where MD stopped responding to the keyboard.

Can you install and run toolbox. Any messages pop up when you launch toolbox?

Then can you send a new console?

Is it running out of Memory? Max is 1.5GB?

My laptop has 32GB of memory. I can't imagine it's a memory problem, unless there's something about the way the JRE / JDK / Java runtime is configured?

The JVM is restricted by a setting, it’s irrelevant how much ram your computer has (unless you are on a Mac).

Toolbox, then either top right, open folder, or general tools button, open/view vmoptions for instructions.

Change setting to -Xmx2048m or perhaps even double that.

… MD must be closed to make the edit.

I edited the Moneydance.vmoptions file to give the JVM 2 gigabytes of memory and there's no change.

Are you syncing? If so, what method? Try disabling sync....

    Try running with WiFi/internet off...

    Just troubleshooting...

I can't imagine how that would help. But, I tried turning wifi off and got the same behavior.

AT this point, I think I just want a refund for this "upgrade". It is literally unusable. How can I go about that?

Getting back to this issue after quite a while, not sure if I need to
    reopen a new ticket.

I am still seeing this problem. I changed the vmoptions as above and
increased the memory to 4096MB and the problem still persists.

    Any further suggestions?

I have more information and can now reproduce this issue reliably.

It's related to editing the Description field of a transaction. I can edit two transactions, and after that, Moneydance stops responding to the keyboard.

Specifically: I edit one transaction's description, enter it, everything is fine; I enter another description, enter it, everything is fine. But now, Moneydance has stopped responding to keys.

    Hello? Is anyone reading this?

I paid for my upgrade to Moneydance 2023 and I got something that is really not usable. I understand it's hard to debug this, but I really need some help. What do I need to do?

Whew, I found the other thread and am happy to see that others are encountering this too, and it's not some super duper weird thing with just my computer...

    Ref:

    1. If that doesn't work, this is worth a try: make changes to a transaction, then click on another transaction in the register. When prompted whether you want to save the transaction, click Yes. For some people that works, and I'm still tracking down that specific bug. I think it's probably related to MD trying to automatically add an exchange rate entry based on the transaction.

Do you use foreign currency on these txns?
