report
Hello,
I just loaded moneydance today. I like the interface but am having
trouble creating reports as the program stated. I simply need to
run individual reports for my business such as, telephone, gas,
health ins, ect... I have played all around with the reports and
everything is grayed out and won't allow me to check specific
categories for running reports.

This may be the same query as I have. I am looking to switch over from MS Money and use this software to track personal accounts. I do use my credit card for business items and then have to pay myself back. In MS Money you can get a report that categorizes expenses so I can track business expenses. Does MD do this? I do not want to purchase if it does not.

Once you get it set up, I have found that MD has plenty of reporting by category. I converted from Money about a year ago, and it took me a while to get my data converted and looking like I wanted it to, but now I wouldn't go back for anything.
Under tools there is an option called "graphs and reports". In there you will find Income and expenses, or detailed income and expenses, or some others. You can have as many categories as you wants (MD sometimes uses the words Category and Account interchangeably so it takes a little getting used to).

Thanks Randy for the tip. it is still a little quirky, but it works. I had to select detailed cash flow and from there select the individual categories ??? Checking expenses makes more sense to me. This program is leaps and bounds better than the new new quicken for mac 2010.

There are a number of improvements and bug fixes to the reports in the current preview release. You can download it from here;

Ben,
I don't see anything but the whole program for a mac platform. I just
downloaded this program on March 5th. It would be helpful if you could
be more specific on versions on your site. I don't see a fix here. I
am using r2 753. is there truly a fix for the report problems?
I cannot get a register report to print with check numbers. It seems
like a simple thing.
thanks

Hi Rhonda
There is no build 753, you are almost certainly running Md2010r2 Build 735. The problem you are having with individual accounts being greyed out in the report options is fixed in build 743. 743 is not yet an official release. It is still a preview release. You should download the whole program form the link below.

With regard to a report with check numners you may find the "Transactions" report meets your needs.

The reports need allot of work in this program. It still does not allow you to print a simple report (with check numbers) for a specific category. For example, business insurance. If I want to make sure I have all of my payments of business insurance for my taxes, I like to go through and compare with the check number.
I would think most people that have a fairly large checking account would want to do this.
Quicken has always done this. You can click on any "payee" and generate a report for every payment made to that payee.

I have added a suggestion ticket to our issue tracking system to add the check number filed ot the detailed income and expense report. Here it the link to the ticket.
