I have lost the ability to add transactions
I was trying to add transaction to an account but the new transaction line would not come up. At first it was just in the Investment category but it has spread to other categories. If the account has a few transactions it seems to be able to add one but that is not consistent. Do I have a corrupt database? Can it be fixed?

I'm a fellow user.
I'm somewhat confused by your statements. Category is generally one of the fields in a transaction, so when you say it was just in the Investment category but then spread to other categories I am not following what you mean.
Database corruption generally presents itself as strange data in transactions, strange account names appearing or some other thing around the data itself, not in the use of the program itself, and you sound like you are having a problem more to do with usability.
I can think of one thing to try at this point.
There is a file that contains your configuration and preference information by renaming it when Moneydance is closed and then starting Moneydance it looks to the software like a new install. but all of you data is still there, you just have to navigate to where it is and open it, you can also just enter you license key. A fresh start should ensure there are no settings that could be giving you problems
Depending on your operating system the configuration file config.dict should be in one of the following locations
1. macOS
macOS Big Sur and later:
~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict
macOS X Lion until macOS X Catalina:
~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict
macOS X Snow Leopard and earlier:
~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict
If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder you can open Finder and hold down the option key while selecting the Go menu and the Library folder option should occur or you can open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder and copy and paste in the following:
~/Library
This should pull up your local Library folder.
2. Windows
If you're using Windows, it should be located under your login directory at:
C:\Users\(yourusername)\.moneydance\config.dict
or
C:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\.moneydance\config.dict
Depending on your version of Windows
3. Linux
If you're using Linux it should be located in your home folder at:
~/.moneydance/config.dict
Once you've found your config.dict file, ensure Moneydance is closed and rename the file (to something like config-org.dict, for example), then open Moneydance again and it will appear as though you've just installed Moneydance for the first time and you may have to locate and open your data set again.
Now try the operation you were having trouble with and see if it works as expected.
If it does you can continue using the new configuration file by while viewing your data file, choose Help --> Register Moneydance and input your license key.
If you run into any problems, you can simply close Moneydance and rename config-org.dict file back to config.dict and open Moneydance again to restore your original settings.
