Text File Importer problems
Hello,
Please if you may guide if there are current issues with the Text File Importer.
I have tried importing CSV files for hours without success. I've followed the example file (posted by Kevin - Workbook2.csv) and tests shown in the thread below and the transactions are not importing.

Using Moneydance 2023.1 - Mac OS / Text Import v103
Please if you can let me know if there are any known issues with the latest Moneydance application or Extension.
Thank you,

The text file importer is quite old and most of the functions it had were incorporated into the inbuilt importer accessed via the File --> Import menu command.
For repeated usage the CSV importer is the best option.
If you continue you have difficulties I would suggest posting a troublesome CSV file and see if others can import it. Most of the time it is a settings issue causing the problem.

Hi Orlando,
As forum member dwg suggests, it would be best to post at least a small sample of your CSV file. Make sure to include at least 1 deposit/payment transaction and 1 debit/charge transaction so as to see how they are formatted.

Hi dwg - yes, the reason why I am attempting to use CSV importer is because the internal import option doesn't allows to work with files that have credit / debit in one column.
Please see attached the csv file from Kevin N. that I was testing - per the discussion linked in previous message. In summary, I wasn't able to load that Test csv file, nor any of my own csv files with real data. That is why I would like to know if others are having trouble importing csv under 2023.1 and Text Import v103.
Thanks,

Hi Orlando,
I was able to import Workbook2.csv using Text File Importer v103 using the settings displayed in the attached screenshots.

After it fails, grab output of help/console and upload that here.

Hi Orlando,
Were you able to import Wookbook2.csv using the settings I provided?
One key factor is that on the field selection screen, you MUST use the 'Less Fields' button so that ONLY the 3 requisite fields are displayed.
Again, if you provide a sample of your actual CSV file, I can try to help you with importing it.

I was able to sort it out. The reason why the csv import wasn't working is because the Text Import extension dialog was showing extra Fields (with Ignore instructions) than those (columns) existing in the csv file. So, I removed the extra Fields and just left the 3 that were present in the csv file and it worked. Thanks,

Thanks Kevin N. - exactly, that is what I just noticed at my end. Best regards,

Hi Orlando,
Great! I'm glad to hear that you were able to get this sorted.
Thank you for reporting back with your results.
If you intend to import CSV files from various financial institutions on a regular basis, I suggest setting up the CSV Importer extension. It is more robust than the Text File Importer.
It allows for separate CSV file readers for each financial institution, it checks for duplicate transactions, it also follows Monneydance's 'blue dot' import procedure.
