I last used Moneydance (it is brilliant by the way) on 4th March, but this morning I cannot open it, no matter what I try. I put in the password - and after that the icon appears in my system tray but I cannot open the program.

I have Moneydance 2010 - not certain which build - and I am using Windows 7. I also notice that I have two versions of java on my machine:

Java (TM)6 Update 14 (64 bit)
and also

Java (TM) 6 update 18 - this was installed on 5th March.

Looking through your support pages - it appears that Java could possibly be causing the problem, but I am not certain what I should do...

I also am having problems opening my Moneydance, I am a computer novice and have a Mini Mac and have been using MONEYdance since I bought it last June. As it wouldn't open last week I thought my subscription was out of date so I purchased it again!!!!! Dumb eh? I still cannot open it from the docking station, I have two icons which are Moneydance 2 and Moneydance 3, first thing this morning no.3 opened but now it won't.
There is probably a very easy explanation but could you please let me know what it is

    Regards

    Maureen,
This is what I would do if I was in your situation, although someone from Support may have a better suggestion.
Your Moneydance application has a .app extension and should reside in your Applications. Your data file is whatever you've named it, and has a .md extension (i.e., mine are business.md and personal.md). When you purchased Moneydance the first time, you were given a license code. I would first confirm the location of your data file, locate your license code and write it down. Then I'd delete the actual MD apps and redownload. If you have MD 2 and 3, you may have a MD or MD 1 sitting around somewhere. Once you have one MD application that you can open, you can locate and open your data file and register using your license code.

The Moneydance developers are extremely kind, and I'm sure once they see that you've mistakenly purchased a second, unnecessary license, I would be surprised if they did not offer you a refund.

    Hi Anne

The problem you are experienceing is amost certainly caused by a bug that is starting up the program minimized. On Win 7 hower over the minimized moneydance item in your task bar until a thumbnail of the application appears. Right click on the thumb nail and select Maximize.

Once you have done this you can update to the latest version of the software which will prevent this from happening again. You can get the latest version from here:

    Dear Ben,

Thanks - now managed to open Moneydance, but when I used the link you sent me it took me to a page that I visited earlier today when I was trying to sort out the problem for myself. But as before - which one of these do I install? It is not at all clear..............

    Is it the Moneydance Install.exe?

    Dear Ben,

I have re-installed the file you suggested and there is no improvement at all........

The problem is that I am going to be living on camp sites for the next 4 months, so I will not have a lot of time to sort out any problems - internet connection will be spasmodic. But at least I am managing to open Moneydance by maximising the window as you suggested.

The problem is caused by Moneydance being closed down while it is minimized and then remembering its minimized state when it is next run. If you ensure that the program is not minimized when you close it you should not experience the problem. The developers were under the impression that this bug was fixed in the 743 build. Can you confirm that you have build 743 installed (select Help>About Moneydance tosee the build number) and that with this build the app still starts minimized sometimes.

I am sorry for the trouble this is causing you.

    Sincerely

    Dear Ben,

I have done it several times and you are quite right, if I close Moneydance from the full screen it opens again with no trouble. However, if I close the minimised version, then I have to maximise it before it will load properly.

Ane the build I am using is:

    Moneydance2010r2 (743)

So it looks as if it is not fixed yet.........

My Mac OS 10.6.2 will not open MD for the first time in a year (same machine). I have MD 2010 and have opened and used that version successfully several times. But today, the icon is nonresponsive, and when I try to open it via Finder I get the msg "The application Moneydance can't be opened - 1712" Please help.

To add to my earlier post, I now know it is not the machine because I get the same msg on both my laptop and desktop Macs. I cannot open MD on either.

Please try downloading the latest version and reinstalling it. let me know if that resolves the problem.

On a side note it is easier for tech support staff if users start a new discussion for their particular problem unless they are certain it related to the original posters problem. In this case you problem is unrelated.

    Sincerely

I actually did purchase a new version and download it, sometimes it opens and sometimes not, probably need to clear it off entirely and reload, will do that when I have a moment, us ex pat pensioners have a busy time!

When I click on Moneydance, (2010 version for Windows 7), it immediately minimizes to the bottom of the screen. I right-clicked as many of you suggested, but "maximize" does not appear as an option. I'm open to other suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Gary

On windows 7 to maximize a minimized window you must first hover over the item in the task bar with the mouse pointer. You will then see a thumbnail of the program. Right click on the thumbnail and select maximize.

    Hi Ben,

I just tried again, without results. When I right-click the minimized icon, there's a "Recent Document" option, an icon for Moneydance, "Pin to Taskbar," and "Close Window." Right-clicking does not give me any other choices.

    Suggestions?

In windows 7 right clicking on the taskbar item is not sufficient to see the maximize option. You must first hover your mouse over the taskbar item and wait a second. Then you will see a thumbnail of the program appear. Right click on the thumbnail and you will get the maximize option.
