Graph of price and volume always shows another security in the Exxon Mobil security detail
For some reason the security detail for Exxon Mobil never shows the correct price/volume graph. It either shows 3M, the first security in the list for that account (see attached screen shot (doctored to hide private data) where Exxon Mobil is chosen in the pop-up at the top, but the graph is for 3M), or the previous security viewed. Exxon Mobil is the only security that I have found so far that exhibits this strange behavior. Any ideas on what is happening?

I have the same issue with several securities. I have numerous securities (> 100), but this only happens in a 3 to 5 accounts.

Hi Patrick and Chuck,
Sorry to be so late in getting back to the both of you, my apologies. This is a bug I have encountered before in moneydance but we have not yet been able to figure out what is causing it. If both or either of you would be willing to send me a stripped down version of your moneydance file featuring just enough to demonstrate the problem it would be very helpful for us in trying to figure out this problem. My email is [email blocked] .
Thanks,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

Sorry I deleted all history and reloaded the data. It works fine.

Hi Jon,
I'm wondering if you have resolved this issue. In one of my investment accounts, two of the eight securities will not display the graph properly in the "Securities Detail" tab. That is, when I switch from one security to another, the graph will continue to display the previously viewed security while the panel depicting the number of shares/price/current value, etc and the panel depicting the register properly switch. If it matters, all of the security prices have been entered manually since I started using the program.
Any suggestions to fix would be appreciated.
Robert

Robert,
If you are not using the most recent version (2010r3 build 751), please update to that version. You can download the update here. Please let me know if your issue persists and we will look into other solutions, and include your OS, the version of Moneydance you are running, and the version of java you are running.
Please let me know how I can be of further assistance,

Robert,
Thanks for the OS and version details. I have a few more clarifying questions. Did you mean that the securities details have been manually entered for all 8 securities, or only for the 2 which are being problematic? Are you ever able to see the graph for these 2 securities? If so, how do you make that happen? Is there anything unique about those 2 securities (are held in a foreign currency, etc)?
Thanks for helping us to figure out this sticky problem,
Angie Rauscher

Hi All,
I had the same problem with a few securities.
I hit 'Clear' on the 'Currency/Security History' window for the security in question, re-downloaded the data and it solved the 'sticky' issue.
So far (I'd say, a few months now) the sticky issue has not returned.

Hi:
I'm the one who started this thread. I'm running the latest version of MD, OS 10.6.4, and ExxonMobil still does not display the correct graph. Whatever graph was showing before I switch to ExxonMobil remains, even though the rest of the data switches correctly. Interestingly this does not happen with ExxonMobil ESOP (which I list as a separate stock). ExxonMobil seems to be the only stock that I have noticed behaving this way. I've got too much history in ExxonMobil to risk clearing it and trying to reconstitute it, so I am living with this (it is not the most serious problem with MD, which remains the workflow for manually inputting new prices for bonds and stocks on foreign exchanges, but nobody at MD seems interested in fixing this either).

In response to Angie's questions, I have manually entered the information for all eight of the securities. All of the securities were created in MD at the same time and there is nothing unique about these two that I can identify. To the best of my knowledge, there has never been a time when these two graphs have displayed properly. It seems that the problem is precisely the same as that described by Patrick. I might add that when I go to the Portfolio Summary screen and attempt to click on either of the two problematic securities, the graph isn't the graph of the last security that was displayed; rather, it is the graph associated with the first security in the list of eight securities. Not sure if this helps you zero in on the problem at all.
This is fairly minor annoyance so I will wait for a while in hopes that someone at MD will find a fix. Otherwise, I will likely try clearing the history, as suggested by Kevin, and move on.

Please select Help->"Console Window" and then go through the process of trying to display the ExxonMobil security and switching to another security. Please paste any error messages displayed in the console window to this discussion.

No errors appeared in the console window when I switched to and from the two securities that won't graph properly.

The same with me too. No messages showed up in the Console window.

Hi Everyone,
This is a tough one and I apologize that we don't know a good fix yet. I've created a bug ticket for this one and am passing it on to the developers, hopefully they can tease out what is up with this. We'll post on this thread once it gets fixed.
Thanks,

Thanks for the effort. I went with Plan B and decided to clear the history. The graph title immediately changed to match the true name of the security when I pressed "Clear" on the Currency/Security History window. Of course, there were no data to go along with it. I then imported the historical data from Yahoo Finance and it appears to be working fine.

Robert,
I'm glad to hear it's working well for you now. We're all looking forward to having a final fix for this bug, and we'll post on this thread when there are further developments. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

I had the same problem with one share. deleting the history and resynchronizing again also cured it.
I think the problem may have been that the early price history entries were in pence while the later entries were in pounds sterling.
Before I started using Moneydance I used MS Money and before that a program from, I think, Intuit.
