Transaction filter report filtering by tag issue

I have a transaction which is for a specific category and has a split for twom different tags. When I run the transaction filter report, filtering on this category and a date range it finds the correct transactions including the two splits by tag. However, if I also add one of the tags into the report filter then neither transaction is shown.

This has been going on for absolutely ages with no fix.

Ethan, before this thread is put to sleep again, do you have any thoughts on this problem and also the other continued problems with the reporting module? Also, why do transaction filter reports not put data in date order when sorted by category? Can you speak to the developer about this?
I don't want to have to use a workaround or export to Numbers and start to fiddle with the data. I just want reporting to work as it should.

I have decided to keep bumping this so it is not closed again and forgotten again. I do feel reporting should be sorted so we can view our data properly.
    A response would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

I agree with you. There is not much use in having a financial system if you can't reliably report on the data that is in it!

I promised I would would keep bumping this thread, and will continue to do so until I/we all, get a response from support or developer about this.
This also stops the thread being automatically closed and forgotten about!

    Hi Maddy
Any news from the development team about this issue and general report problems mentioned by others?
    Cheers

I'm a fellow user, and these are my own observations, take as you like.

It will be of no comfort to you Tony but what is being worked on at the moment in Moneydance is the core of the software. Many changes, a big rewrite, with resultant issues. The aim is to set Moneydance up for future developments.

To give some perspective the current Preview release is at build 5007, as I am sure you know, the Alpha builds have just hit build 5035

And to be clear, the "big rewrite" is not to fix problems, (such as the topic of this thread), but to change the underlying infrastructure. So, when build 50xx is preview or release, you won't see many (if any) significant "bug fixes", as they will all be pretty much hidden (memory leaks, etc.)

Now, hopefully, after that, Sean will get back to fixing open issues like this one, but we'll have to wait and see...

I hope he does too as there seem to be a few that have been around for quite a while, including this one.

I would like to add my vote for this tag fix please! I'm a long-time MD and Mac user, and love them both. I seriously underutilize the reporting features and just discovered this lacking in tags. I've been tagging something for a year now, assuming I could run a detailed report based on tags. What are they for, if you can't do that? I understand the workarounds, and can definitely export to Google Sheets and sort but what a pain. Hoping Sean and the MD folks will really look seriously at this. This software is too good and deserves it! :)

With the current reports tags are used as a sub filtering tool, after categories, so the categories are the primary selection method and the tag filters from the selected category, rather than being used for primary transaction selection.

Fair enough dwg and thanks for the onfo, but it still needs sorting?

Sorry for the lack of response. Although I can confirm that there is an existing ticket about this topic, unfortunately we cannot provide an ETA for a possible resolution.
On the other hand, I suspect dwg's suggestion in post 19 of this thread makes perfect sense and perhaps the approach you have taken is not what this feature is designer for. That being said, I will refer your query to the development team again for further advice.

My response was in reference to the post taking about using tags as the primary selection criteria.

There is still the issue of when using tags as intended the reports are not being generated as they should.

    Hi All,

I've taken a look at the report and filtering in the current development version and it seems to be working properly. I wanted to run the test files by you to confirm if my simple test case matches up with what you're seeing.

Could you take a look at the attached screenshots of an account register, report settings with tag filter and the resulting report? If the report settings don't match how you've set up the report, could you send me a screenshot showing your settings? I've attached a simple file if you'd like to use to to replicate the test.

    Thanks,
    Sean
