Problems obtaining a printout of a liability status

Hello,

I switched from MS money to moneydance 1.5 months ago and I must say that I'm overall quite happy (even though I entered all my transactions of 2009 again "by hand" because I changed my categories to better reflect what I needed and because I didn't read the helpblog over switching beforehand.... so I still have to enter again 2008 and 2007 but, it's OK, I'll do it when I have some time.

I have some problems though that I would like to share with you.
The first one is about budget (which is quite poor in my eyes but I'm still investigating some things and will come to it later on)

The second thing which I'm struggling with is the search and the possibility of having proper reports.
I decided to set up a liability account to enter all the money I owe to people or the money they owe me which is nice because sometimes my partner is paying things for me, other times I'm paying for things and at the end of the month, we settle everything.
When I try to obtain a report to show my partner how much the settlement is I however can't :
When filtering in my liability account based on names, I can obtain the total I owe or my partner owe but as I cannot obtain a printable report (I know I can make a print screen but this is not what I want), I try to obtain the same information by doing an advanced search which I know I can print.
The problem is that I cannot obtain the same information with an advanced search !! (see the two screens with the options I tried)
Could you tell me how I should do this ?

Overall remark, when will you improve the report making part of moneydance, I noticed that this is a often requested feature !

   I am sorry I haven't responed sooner. We have been cought off guard by how busy we have been.

   The reason you are gettig different results is that one of the searches is searching for "Anne" and the other is search for "Anne-".

   With regard to reporting have y7ou looking in the "Graph and Reports" section of Moneydance? This is accessed under Tools->"Graphs and Reports". There are a variet of reports you may find useful there and they can all be printed. Since you are interested in filtering on the Description field you should use the search report. See the attached screen shot. This is similar to the search function but actually generates a printable report. Generate the report and then click on the Print button at the bottom of the report.

   I also recomend upgrading to the latest preview version of Moneydance (build 743) there are a number of improvements ot the Graphs and reports section in that version. You can download it from the link below.

   Dear Ben,

   I upgraded to 743 and looked for the search report but nothing worked.
   You'll find in att 3 pictures.
   picture 1 with the liability account showing only the uncleared transactions
   and the searched as performed previously (the hyphen is not relevant I
   believe) : no match at all.
   picture 2 with the liability account and the search report showing only the
   uncleared transactions : no match at all (notice that although I selected
   the liability account in the search report, the result generated shows
   operations appearing in the ABN Private Rekening !!
   picure 3 with the same as above except that I do not restrict to cleared
   transactions : no match at all !!

   I sometimes have the impression that the liability account is not taken as a
   real "account"

   UPDATE : here maybe :
   picure 4 : I tried to search the contents of one of the origin accounts DB
   E-accounts and the result was nothing.

   I found out the following : the remaining operations in the liability
   account are split transaction of which the "main" description was
   "Fromagerie" (76€) in the split which I did for this transaction, I
   allocated 36€ to "Fromagerie" category = purchases:groceries and 36€ to
   "Anne-..." category : liability. So it seems that although the money finds
   its way in the right accounts, the search (report) is not able to look at
   the "sub-"description of a split transaction. The same holds for the money
   in the wallet.

   Am I right with this ?
   Is this a bug or intended like this ? (it is already annoying enough not to
   be able to write a memo for split transactions, if the desctiption of split
   transactions is also not searchable, it is not nice at all !!!)

   Hi Stephane

   Thank you for bringing this problem to our attention. The search report is a new feature and you have discovered a bug in it. It seems that this bug is also present in the advance search feature. I have contacted the developers working on this and I hope we will get it fixed soon.

   Hi Ben,

   I just downloaded the 746 version with the new search report.

   Looks great, especially that it is able to look inside the splits apparently ! Only problem I have so far is that it is not able to take into account 3 criteria :
   Based on account and description : perfect
   Based on description and Tag : as well
   Based on account, description and tag : doesn't show anything although it is obvious there should be something.

   Anyway, it is already an improvement above the previous version, continue with the good job !!
