Under the "online" tab, the only thing I can select is download all accounts and that doesn't seem to work. I would like to set up my bank accounts and bill pay but those options don't seem to be available.

I'm having the same problem. I don't know how to get payees to populate the online bill pay screen. Have posted to this forum and Questions forum for help, but haven't heard back yet.

    Fingers crossed.

It won't download transactions for me either.
I downloaded the trial version of MD which apparently permits unlimited downloads. So I set up an account to link to my Smith Barney account. But every time I tell it to download its transactions MD fails and I get an error box:

"There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below. A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.
Error Description: java.io.IOException: HTTP Error:500 Server Error."

This is on the same laptop PC (running Windows 7 64 bit) that downloads with no problem into Quicken. That is what is stopping me from really testing MoneyDance.

I am running the Mac version and have registered the software. It seems that the login protocols for my financial institutions are not supported. One of my banks (which is on the pre-populated list) requires a password and pin simultaneously to login. This doesn't seem to be an option for setting up an account. My other accounts just give an error message when trying to set them up.

That is a bummer. If MD cannot download from my broker that makes MD of no use to me. The broker I am talking about is Smith Barney, hardly an unknown firm.
I wonder if MD's support known of a workaround.

The "Online" tab will only offer the option to setup connections and bill pay when accessed when you are viewing the register of an bank or credit card account. If you are seeing only the "Download all accounts" option you are probably trying to access this menu from the home screen.

Re: Smith Barney- First off, if you are not using the most recent version (2010r2 build 743), please update to that version. You can download the update here. This update has resolved a few key issues our users have been experiencing, including some OFX connection issues.

Most financial institutions will require you to enable your accounts for application-based online banking. You can accomplish this by asking your bank to set up your account for connections from Quicken. Moneydance uses exactly the same OFX server connection protocol as Quicken but your bank representative many not know this and mistakenly believe that they do not support Moneydance. Calling up your bank and stating precisely the following should get you started. "Please enable direct connect on my account such that I can connect to your servers directly with Quicken. Also give me the login credentials I need to connect Quicken to this service."

Application-based online banking often requires a different login/PIN than the ones that are used for ATM or web-based banking. When you enable your account for access from Moneydance or Quicken, your financial institution should let you know what customer ID/login and PIN to use.

Quicken and Money support two methods of accessing your accounts: direct connect and web connect. With web connect, they basically connect to your bank's website and download and import OFX, QFX, QIF, and OFC files. Direct connect actually connects to a server at your bank instead of their website and usually requires different login credentials than you would use to log into your banks website. Moneydance only supports automatic connections through direct connect and not web connect. You can still download OFX, QFX, QIF, and OFC files files from your bank and import them, but there's currently no way to do this automatically from within Moneydance.

We are looking into the possibility of offering web connect but there are several obstacles for us at the moment. Since in web connect the program is interfacing with the banks web interface each different web connection with a bank will be different. Moreover, if a bank changes their interface then we may have to totally restructure that banks web connect process. Its all a bit of a daunting process, especially determining a method that meets our high standards of quality and security but we are definitely looking into our options. We will keep the Moneydance community updated about new developments in web connect for Moneydance.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, or if you continue to have issues connecting and we will look further into the matter.
