When I try to pay a bill from my PNC account, Moneydance comes back with this:

There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.
I'm sorry, an error occurred. The details of this error are below.
Error Description: java.lang.Exception: Server did not acknowledge payment message

I've seen a lengthy thread here regarding this vis-a-vis Moneydance 2010. I have 2008r4 (643) and, but a also having this problem.

I've also lost all my online payees, a problem which I posted earlier, but concerning which I have received no help.

Is anyone home? ;-)

PNC is having problems with their accounting system. I have not been able to get them to accept a payment and credit my account for over a month. Have spoken to them and they are treating me like it is my problem even though I have proof of payment from my bank. Sure their shareholders would support this attitude.

    Good Luck

I think PNC would accept my Bill Pay requests (these would be outgoing to my creditors from my account, not something I owe to PNC), but you're right about PNC. As soon as I tell them I'm using Moneydance, boom! they tell me they can't help me.

What's incredibly frustrating, though, is I can't get anyone from Moneydance to help me. I don't think I've ever waited so long on tech support or seen such an unresponsive bunch of people. You get far better support when it's open source and FREE!

    Hi all,

I'm sorry for the unreasonable delay in responding to this issue. The short answer to this issue is that a small number of banks are having ongoing issues with bill payment. Sadly, PNC is one of them. We are continuing to work on the issue, but are having difficulty pinning it down. One of the more successful strategies we have found is to initiate the payment at least 10 days before you want it to be transmitted, and make sure the payment date is on a business day. These issues are not version specific, but exist across all versions of Moneydance.

I'm sorry I don't have a smoother solution for you, we are working on a solution but I don't have a time line for resolution. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

I have discovered that PNC will bounce payments with an unspecified
error if your date is a weekend *or holiday*; my old system used to ask
me if I wanted to change it to "such-and-such a date", where
such-and-such was the business day before the weekend or holiday. Don't
know if that came from my desktop system or the underlying bank.

So, you addressed one issue, but my issue is the disappearance of my
Payees. Are you going to address that?

    Thanks, and Regards,

Your reply to the last thread was that you get it from the bank, which
you repeat here. There, I said "Oh, OK, when I'm back online with my
bank, they should repopulate". By March 7, when I reposted this issue
as a new thread, I was back on line with my bank, and my payees haven't
repopulated. So that's what I'm writing about now. This, with me
anyway, was NEVER addressed, pending my getting back online with my
    bank.

Also, you never answered "how do I disconnect and reconnect" or whatever
it was you said I do in your last email.

    Thanks, and Regards,

    Hi Allen,

It's my understanding from another user that PNC no longer offers payee downloads through OFX direct connection. Apparently, they merged with someone, or someone merged with them, and the payee list is no longer available for download. Unfortunately, that means that you'll need to add all of your payees into Moneydance manually. I'm sorry for the inconvince this causes.

I'm not sure if you still need to reset your connection, but if you do, you can use the following steps:

    1) Select your bank account in Moneydance
    2) Select the Online->Setup Online Banking button/menu
    3) Click the "Disable" button. If you don't see a disable button, continue to step 5.
    4) Select the Online->Setup Online Banking button/menu (again)
    5) Click the "New Connection" button and select your bank and hit OK
    6) Continue with the setup process, entering your username/password
    7) Repeat steps 1-6 for any additional accounts

Make sure you pick new connection, even though your bank is still one of the connection choices after you disable it. Choosing your bank from the list of available banks will force Moneydance to download the updated information.

Ah! OK, I guess that answers my question, but leads to one other one:

Does Moneydance have any facility to import payees?

Also one earlier question that didn't get answered:

Does the 2010 version allow "One-click payment" from reminders to online
payees? I thought I saw something about "One-click payment didn't make
the 2010 cut", but I can't find it now.

So, if I can get these two questions answered, we can consider this
    issue closed, I think.

    Thanks, and Regards,

    Hi Allen,

Moneydance does import payees, but only if the bank offers them through OFX. I don't think there's a way to import an arbitrary list of payees, unfortunately.

Also, 2010 doesn't currently support payments from reminders as you describe. We did intend for that feature to be in 2010, but it didn't quite make it. It's on our radar though, so look for it in future versions of Moneydance.

I hope that answers your questions! Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Yes, it did answer all my questions. Thanks for having the patience to
walk through all this stuff with me.

I have an extensive background in software development. I'm under the
impression that Moneydance has the capability of being extended; so, if
I wanted to add the "one-click" payee or to import payees from a .csv
file, can you point me to a starting point for a tutorial in extending
Moneydance? Can I sell these extensions?

    Thanks again,
    Allen

    Hi Allen,

It would be great if you wrote an extension for this! You can find information for writing extensions on our website at http://moneydance.com/developer. I would highly suggest joining the developers mailing list to get your questions answered while you're working on your extension.

I checked in with Sean, and he says it's perfectly fine to sell extensions that you write. However, we don't have any kind of "extension store" type functionality on our website, so you would need to sell it through your own site if you go that route.

Good luck, and thanks for using and helping to improve Moneydance!

Good. I'm currently booked writing a couple of mobile apps right now,
but after that, I'll take a look at this.
