Permissions, again
Hi:
I'm using Linux (Mardriva Gnome 2010 64-bit). I share a computer with my wife; we log on as different users. We jointly use one Moneydance file which is saved in my home directory. My wife cannot save her modifications to that file. The reason is permissions.
The permissions are as good as I seem to be able to make them. I set them several times, both as myself and as root. The recalcitrance seems to be coming from the java side of things. I attach a text file with the java console print out of the errors as they happened.
I did not have this difficulty when I used KDE (also Mandriva 2010 64 bit). I changed to Gnome only recently. I do not have this difficulty with certain, but not all, other types of files.
Seems like some other folks are having this difficulty too.
Anyway, thanks for your help.

OK, I'm going to reply to myself.
I've spent half a day on this thing, and for that effort learned, again, that God is in the details.
The folder in which I kept the .md file was 'Moneydance Shared.' Linux users will know the peril of a space in a file name. Not being sure if java might be gagging on that, I changed the name to 'MoneydanceShared'. I don't know if this had anything to do with it or not.
Additionally, I had been trying to maintain the permissions on and in the MoneydanceShared directory using the Gnome GUI. I dropped that approach, went to the command line and did this: chmod -R 0777 MoneydanceShared.
That proved sufficient. My wife can now write (save) to the .md file in my directory.
I don't know what did the trick, but it works now. (That said, I'll bet it's the Gnome GUI.)
