Moneydance is not syncing - all steps followed
This discussion is public.
Moneydance (2021.1) is syncing perfectly on my three Mac OS machines.
My husband's Windows 10 machine is on the same network and is also running the same version of Moneydance. But it is NOT syncing.
I followed all the listed steps for syncing on Infinite Kind website. I started a "new" Moneydance using the same communication mechanism (Dropbox Folder).
Other Dropbox files sync as desired.
If there is no other way to sync, how do I delete his Moneydance data so that his Moneydance is required to sync freshly?

It should be simpler than you describe... you shouldn't need a "new" moneydance since you already have three machines syncing.
He should simply do a "File New", Open Sync File, Dropbox Folder - assuming he is connected to the same dropbox. (If he is not, it can still be done by shared dropbox folders, but is more complicated)

Thenk you for the very promply reply. There is a different dropbox account on each machine, which must mean that we need to use the (more complicated) shared dropbox folder. Is there a link to those instructions?

TiK has never written up a concise set of instructions. I can give you an outline however.
On Dropbox you need to share the moneydancesync folder to your husband's Dropbox account from yours, you do this using the web interface to Dropbox it is nothing to do with Moneydance. An old Moneydance article may give you some help on this:
https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/archive-mobile/archive-how-to-sync-one-data-file-with-multiple-ios-devices-using-different-dropbox-accounts.
When using Dropbox folder this shared folder should then appear on your husband's machine in the Dropbox folder tree.
Depending on where it ends up in the folder hierarchy you may be able to use the usual Dropbox folder option during the syncing setup, but you may have to select shared folder and then just navigate to the right folder using the explorer window that comes up as part of the location selection.
It sounds harder than what it is.

Hi Stephanie
If you have different Dropbox accounts on different computers you need to Dropbox share the folder .moneydancesync so all computers can see the same .monydancesync folder.
The following describes how too Moneydance sync between two Window computers where the computers use different Dropbox Accounts. I know you have three mac successfully syncing and you wont to add a Windows computer that is on a different Dropbox account, but the process should be similar. I don’t have a Mac. I have 3 Windows computers and a Linux computer. One of the Windows is on a different Dropbox account.
Ensure all computers are running the same version and build of Moneydance and Dropbox client is installed on all computers that is you can see the Dropbox Folder on all computers.
The following assumes that on your Windows computer the folder .moneydancesync does not exist in the Dropbox Folder. My primary computer is Windows yours a Mac but the process should be similar, you are setting up a folder share between Dropbox accounts.
1. On your primary computer in the Task Bar click the Dropbox icon then click the glob to open Dropbox.com, your Dropbox account in the cloud. (or equivalent on Mac to get to your Dropbox cloud account in a web browser)
2. Once your web browser has opened your Dropbox Account click on ALL FILES, in the list on the left.
3. Hover the mouse over the ‘.moneydancesync’ line and click on the three dots MORE icon on the right. Then SHARE – SHARE WITH DROPBOX in the popup window.
4. In the window that opens type in the email address of the person with whom you wish to share and click SHARE FOLDER.
5. The recipient of the emails should click on the Dropbox icon to open its window not on the “Go to Folder” button in the email. Click the Bell (open notification) icon. You should see in the Dropbox icon window a note to the effort that “.moneydancesync” is waiting to be shared. Click “Add to Dropbox”.
8. On the Windows secondary computer wait until the “.moneydancesync” folder appears Dropbox icon registers it is up to date.
7. On the secondary Windows computer start syncing, FILE – NEW – select OPEN SYNCED FILE -DROPBOX FOLDER – NEXT and highlight the Data Set to be synced – NEXT.
8. Enter your password (passphrase) - Enter the encryption password, the “Encryption Passphrase” you set on your primary computer under FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – SYNCING. When entered correctly the FINISH button is ungreyed. Click FINISH.
9. Data set should now sync.
It’s that simple.
Hope that helps.

Thank you!
It was working in the past, but something must have changed, as it is no longer syncing.

Hi Stephanie
Worth a simple test to see at the dropbox/.moneydancesync folder is really being shared between all your computers. Copy a text file to the dropbox/.moneydancesync folder on one of your computers and check that the same file appears in all the other computers dropbox/.moneydancesync folders.
