Numbered Checks out-of-order

I just installed the new version of Moneydance (MAC Mountain Lion) and had high hopes that the checks printed on my pre-numbered sheets (of 3 checks) would be handled correctly. No such luck.

I have tried 'reverse page order' ...but that doesn't work.

I have tried 'do not collate' ...but that doesn't work.

So, after printing out my checks I have to go through the transactions register and change all the check numbers to match what the program printed. And then, they show up on the register in jumbled order; no sorting by check number and then date puts them in order.

The real old (2003) Quicken for Windows had no such problem. I think (?) it treated every check, even when 3 on a page, as a separate page and it printed them out in correct order, even sideways for 1 or 2 remaining on a sheet.

Yet, I have a sense that there is a set-up on my Canon MG6220 that will make checks print out in consecutive order ...if only I knew how.

If you folks at Moneydance 'know how' it would be charitable of you to publish a tip-sheet for popular printers, such as Brother, HP, Canon, to assist with a correct printer setup.

    Hi Jerry,

Can you send us the output of your console log? This can be found by going to Help -> Console window in Moneydance, then clicking the "Copy to clipboard" button and pasting the output to us here.

Also, can you send us some screenshots of your printer configuration options? Not the Moneydance printing preferences, but the options you have within your printer for printing.

Scott, thanks for the prompt reply.

The output of the console Log is as follows:

    Starting Moneydance 2012.5 (862) at Mon Apr 01 13:16:01 EDT 2013
    Settings Folder: /Users/jdkalpin/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance
    OS: Mac OS X 10.8.3 x86_64
    Java: 1.7.0-moneydance2012-888 (Oracle Corporation)
Is in sandbox: true; restricted file access: false
    opening last file: Household Checking

I took a screen-shot of my print dialog box, see below:

Two things about that: The boxes entitled 'Layout Direction' ...I don't understand that at all ...!!

Also, when printing cheques there is a much more complex dialog box that comes up when you hit the final print button. I could not bring that up ...because the program told me: "You have no checks to print."

I don't expect you to provide instructions for every printer under the sun ...just give me some hints.

    Hi Jerry,

Thanks for that information! How are the check numbers ordered on your checks such that they're not coming out correctly? Are they backwards or in some other order? Can you try printing a sample from Moneydance to regular paper to compare?

    Scott,

    They are Intuit checks.

I grab a handful out of the box and place them printed-side up and in the rear feeder of my Canon MG6220 printer. So on a sheet of 3, the top edge of check 3760 (say) enters first, followed by 3761 and then 3762. The next sheet (of 3) follows similarly, 3763, 3764 and 3765.

They are not backwards or in some unusual order. I look at them carefully every time.

The printer takes the top sheet first (3760, 3761, 3762). I does not deal from the 'bottom of the deck'.

    Hi Jerry,

That sounds like the order Moneydance should print them in. How does that order compare to how Moneydance is printing the checks? Are the transactions in your register in the same order that they're supposed to be printed in?

Now, with my batch of checks for May 2013, I paid 'special attention' to the print settings on my Canon MG6220 Inkjet Printer. Here is what worked for me (in this case):

UNCHECK the box for 'Collate Pages'.

PAGE ORDER should be 'Normal', and not 'Automatic' and not 'Reverse'.

For this (and probably similar Canon inkjet printers) this fixed the problem. My checks all printed out in correct order ...!!

I hope this helps others with the same problem. It is NOT Moneydance, it is a printer setup issue.
