Sync fault

In the attached pictures you can see the snapshots of my account General 2023 on two synced PCs. Snapshot 1 is the image of my main PC (which is also what I see on my iPhone and my Pad) and Snapshot 2 is the image taken from a synced PC. There are two anomalies
1) The snapshot 2 has some months missing
2) The subaccount June of Snapshot 2 is different from that in Snapshot 1, while all other subaccounts are correct and identical
Please notice that the Moneydance version is the same(full update) and both Pcs have windows 11 full update. This means that in the sync mechanism (dropbox based) there is a non minor fault. How can we trust a system like this?

   Hi Giovanni,
   We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

   In order to determine what might be causing the problem, please can you provide the information below:

   • Which version and build of Moneydance are you using? To check, open Moneydance and select Help --> About Moneydance

   • Is your data file stored in the default location on the PC where you set up sync initially?

   • When you navigate to File->Syncing which sync method do you have selected? Dropbox Folder or Dropbox Connection?

   • Finally, can you check that you don't have any 'hidden' categories/accounts as indicated here

   BUT why
   1) Some subaccounts are synced and June not.?
   2) Why some subaccounts are missing
   There is only a singe point: Moneydance in a PCis italian and in the other english. How can I download either of them (if this could be the cause?) Regards

   If this is in the side bar, try clicking on the + sign at the bottom of the side bar and see if you can add the sub accounts into the display.

   I am wondering if it is just that the accounts are not being displayed rather than not being present.

   • When syncing between computers Moneydance syncs the entire data file. If any accounts are made 'inactive' from the desktop version, they will not show on the mobile app - as outlined here
   • Using the program in different languages shouldn't affect its functionality
   • With "Dropbox Connection" Moneydance uses the Dropbox API to talk to the Dropbox service directly. So, although you don't need to have Dropbox actually installed on your computer, you do need to be online when Moneydance is running in order for changes to be synced.

   That being said, to establish whether this is a syncing issue, would you be able to send us a copy of your Moneydance error logs? The logs should include information on what might be causing the issue.

   They are saved on your computer as an errlog.txt file. You need to navigate to:Local Disk(C:)>Users>Your Name>.moneydance>errlog.txt

   Finally you can copy the full content into your next reply here

   Clarification. Syncing between computers syncs all data irrespective of account active/inactive status.

   Perhaps this will help:

   1. The sidebar is not synced. This has nothing to do with data.
      

   2. if you click + and add the ‘missing’ months, do they appear?

   3. What balance option is selected for the sidebar and homepage balances? Are they the same for both computers? Look on the summary page and also settings

   4. if you view an account register on both, are the txns and balances there the same?

    You have some horrible sync errors with Dropbox. Personally, I would install the Dropbox client locally, log it in, and when that’s working, switch your sync method to Dropbox folders…

    @ Giovanni

    In order to achieve this, before changing sync method, we would recommend creating a manual backup (choose File --> Export Backup) and save it to a location of your choice, ie.: your desktop.

    From your computers (in turn): Launch Moneydance and navigate to File->Syncing
    Choose Don't Sync and close Moneydance.

    • Launch Moneydance again on your primary computer and open the file you wish to sync.
    • Navigate to File->Syncing and choose Dropbox Folder.

    With "Dropbox Folder" you need to have Dropbox installed and running on your computer, but you don't need to be online in order for Moneydance to read and write the changes.

    • Create a Passphrase (You will need to enter the same later, on the secondary computer)

    On the secondary computer:

    Navigate to File->New->Open synced file.

    • Choose the same sync method as the primary computer

    • Enter the same Passphrase to match

    Finally, enter a "dummy"" transaction on each device and allow a few seconds for them to sync. They should display exactly the same transactions and the same accounts.
