    I'm a fellow user.

When you purchase Moneydance you should received a follow up email that contains your license key. You need to enter this key into Moneydance to unlock the trial limit, have you done this?

upgrade... We'll see if that works will it keep making me do this again,?

I think there needs to be some correction here to start with.

Moneydance never makes you do an upgrade, full stop. The software can advise there is an upgrade available but that is it. i/s your choice to download and upgrade the software.

Ok if Moneydance keeps going back to demo mode it suggests there may be something wrong in the file the key is kept in, this is your preferences file. A test for this being the problem is to rename the existing file, start Moneydance, enter the key and see if the problem is resolved, the file is called config.dict and is in one of the following locations

    1. macOS

If you are using a Mac, it should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:

    macOS Big Sur and later:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

macOS X Lion until macOS X Catalina:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

macOS X Snow Leopard and earlier:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder you can open Finder and hold down the option key while selecting the Go menu and the Library folder option should occur or you can open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder and copy and paste in the following:

    ~/Library

This should pull up your local Library folder.

Some Moneydance files/folders on macOS are likely to be hidden, on macOS to show hidden files the key sequence CMD-SHIFT-DOT (that’s a period or ‘.’) will show them.

    2. Windows

If you are using Windows, it should be located under your login directory at:

    C:\Users\(yourusername)\.moneydance\config.dict

    or

    C:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\.moneydance\config.dict

Depending on your version of Windows

No Moneydance files/folders are hidden on Windows.

    3. Linux

If you are using Linux it should be located in your home folder at:
    ~/.moneydance/config.dict

Some Moneydance files/folders on Linux will be hidden, so for example the .moneydance folder that exists within your login folder is hidden. On Linux to show hidden files the various file managers generally have an option to view hidden files. In a terminal session (i.e. at the command line) use the command “ls” with the -a flag to show all files including those that are hidden.

    Now retest the operation.

Once you've found your config.dict file, ensure Moneydance is closed and rename the file (to something like config_org.dict, for example)

Once you have renamed the config.dict file, open Moneydance again and it will appear as though you've just installed Moneydance for the first time and may have to locate and open your data set again.

Enter your key, close and open Moneydance and see if it remembers the key.

If it does you can continue using the new configuration file.

It is generally not viable to edit and repair the config.dict file by hand.

If you run into any problems, you can simply close Moneydance and rename config_org.dict file back to config.dict and open Moneydance again to restore your original settings.

I will try that but at this time I have another issue that keeps popping
up.... it keeps doubling my entries. I want to only manually enter data
because I don't want it doubling entries from the bank, but also I wonder
if it's a setting from when I back up or transfer data, is there a way to
    avoid the double entries???

This comment was split into a new private discussion: my moneydance keeps going to demo mode when I have already purchased the product

I just realized it's also taken out all of my data entry since the day I
first started using the program and it went back to its default... I can't
tell if it's taking data from banking everytime I back up or something, I
can't keep redoing all my reconciles and data entry over and over again, I
think I may have to give up this program

There is not enough information to even suspect what may be causing your issue.

A screen shot showing the register with double entries may help.

How are you getting the data into Moneydance, if downloading and importing what sort of file are you using.

Your Moneydance error log may given us more information or at least background information, it is in the same location as config.dict and is call errlog.txt

What I have asked for above is likely to be just a starting point.

I do not understand what you mean with:

I just realized it's also taken out all of my data entry since the day I
first started using the program and it went back to its default... I can't
tell if it's taking data from banking everytime I back up or something

There is no capability in Moneydance to just delete data, did you happen to choose the Moneydance menu option File --> New that will create a new empty data file, The Moneydance menu command File --> Open will allow you to open any existing file.
