Not backing up properly.
Beginning this month, my software isn't backing up properly. I spend way too much time putting together my finances via this app, only to come back and find out it wasn't backed up properly. Then I spend an inordinate amount of time backtracking to make necessary corrections and changes because of the improper closing procedure. WHY! is there not an manual save function?

Thanks for that tip. I'll be using it like a chain smoker.
Any clue why the system isn't backing up properly at closeout?

What happens?
How do you know it's not working?
What's the path that you think it should be backing up to?
Install and launch toolbox extension.
Then quit MD.
After it quits. Find errlog.txt on disk and upload that here (BEFORE you relaunch MD).
Then we can see....

This comment was split into a new private discussion: Not backing up properly.
First, a credit card transaction with multiple splits was lost from one day to the next. Had to reinsert the transaction. Second, a week later, I recategorized some transactions, and when I came back a couple of days later, the transactions had converted back to their original categories.
I'll look into this toolbox extension, next. Thank you!

First the usual questions: What version of MD? What OS and version are you using?
If you are opening the same data file each day and not opening the actual backup files then I would guess you have a syncing problem. This is not a backup problem but a file saving problem?
In the settings have you set a backup folder. Is it being populated each time you quit MD? You can find the "archive" folder under the Help Menu.
Do you have syncing turned on? What kind of sync are you using?

MD version 2022.6.1 (4098)
MacOS Version 14.3 (23D56)
I do not sync. I work within MD and not a backup.
I’ve just increased my backup number. I previously had it set to 10. Don’t know if that will help, but at least I’ll have more from which to choose.

So it is backing up and you have backups from which to chose.
The reversion and or loss of data that you are seeing seems to imply that you are opening different data sets.
The dataset is on your local disk and not a network volume? That could cause these issues.
If you have an errlog.txt file and are willing to post it, it might give some insight. Especially if you have one where you make a change and then one where it reverts. This is a puzzle and not a known issue.
The toolbox extension can find and fix a lot of little problems with a dataset as well.
