installed moneydance on linux, pulled data from dropbox sync, and now all of my balances are way off

I've only ever really used Moneydance on one computer (Windows 10). I have the phone app which I appreciate because I can check my balances, etc. on my phone. Recently I started playing around with Linux and wanted to try Moneydance there. I use Dropbox syncing so I figured it wouldn't be a problem. I downloaded and installed Moneydance just fine and then had it connect to Dropbox and sync. This took a LONG time - like an hour or more. I figured it was because I've got 10 or more years of financial data. The thing is, that when it finished syncing up, all of the balances were off - some by thousands. Yikes! I disabled syncing on Linux and checked my Windows computer - everything looked fine. So I uninstalled and reinstalled Moneydance and tried again - same thing. I then checked my phone app and the balances are screwed up there too. Is there a way to fix this?

The question is whether your primary (Windows 10) machine is still looking good? If not, do NOT follow the below.. You probably need to restore (untick retain sync settings).. If primary looks good then....:

If so, then I would use toolbox extension. Update mode. Advanced menu. Force RESET sync settings.... Then restart MD, then setup sync again... Then on iPhone connect to new sync and same on Linux.

    BACKUP FIRST.

It worked! Thank you so much!

So, it appears that after a few years of syncing, my sync data got up to 455 MB. After resetting and resyncing, it's now down to 46 MB. I guess it was time to clean house.

The shared location does not have an owner hence there is no file management or consolidation occurring, data exchange is being done as a peer to peer relationship. So the number of files just continually grows.

It is not a bad idea to use Toolbox to perform some maintenance in a controlled way periodically, it could probably do with having a set of brief instructions of the process to follow in normal circumstances.
