I'm a fellow user.
Moneydance uses the concept of managed data so there is a library of information. Effectively there is not one file but library of files held in a directory structure.
The Knowledge Base has an article on removing unwanted data sets it can be found at:

After you have created and opened a new file, then you can use toolbox extension, general tools menu, to delete old files.
