where is the root data file??? how do I find and destroy it?

I'm a fellow user.
Moneydance uses the concept of managed data so there is a library of information. Effectively there is not one file but library of files held in a directory structure.

After you have created and opened a new file, then you can use toolbox extension, general tools menu, to delete old files.
