On update to Moneydance 2024 (5117) Foresight Forecast has stopped working correctly with only the first 3 months timeframe being graphed. Any period beyond this appears blank on the graph or the Transactions List. It would appear that there is a bug in this release.

Can anyone assist please.

Please see also the discussion I opened at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/problems/99419-foresight-forecast-chart-sometimes-fails-to-complete

It contains some additional info about the interaction between the Transactions tab and the Chart tab.

I just installed 2024.1 (5118) and am still having the issue.

I’m on a MacBook Air running Sonoma 14.4.1

It is a known issue and is being worked on my IK for the upcoming update, to my understanding.

Out of interest, can you confirm that you only have the file:

    jfreechart-1.5.4.jar

In your Moneydance install folder, /lib sub folder? Ie there should be no other older jfreexxxxx.jar files?

(Yes there will be other named (non jfree) jar files too and that’s fine) Let me know?

Stuart Beesley—are you asking me to look for that file? Where would I find the Moneydance install folder (macOS Sonoma 14.4.1)?

    On Mac it's:

    /Applications/Moneydance.app/Contents/Java/

Great - no issue above with an old jfree jar file.... (this did affect one windows user)

Is this issue any closer to being resolved? I’m in the midst of needing to go 18-month projections—and the forecast tool is the whole reason I chose Moneydance over other options.

If not, can I reinstall the previous version without losing my current data?

Yes you can reinstall Moneydance 2023 without any data issues, there have been no changes at that level.

Quite a few problems have been reported against build 5118 and the later Alpha builds, we are up to Build 5120, testers are waiting on the next build to see where we are at with progress on the various reported problems.

    FAO Stuart & Alpha testers

I've just installed 5121 on my test machine and checked the FF graphing against a copy of my real dataset and the test dummy set uploaded here a while ago.

The graphs are generated smoothly and fully. The problem is the currency scaling of the graphs is off - very much so; the transaction tab shows the correct numbers. I've attached a couple of screenshots from the dummy dataset which should be self-explanatory. The copy of my real data shows the same behaviour.

I've confirmed that my base currency is GBP and all accounts are set to this (I've not used anything else for years).

Probably this has been picked up already, but thought I'd mention it in case my install is an outlier. My observation was that 5120 had not had any changes in this area.

*** This post relates to an ALPHA release - don't go looking for it and install on your live data ***

Also, Alpha 5122 just came out, with some MoneyForesight fixes, and I know your results are being looked at, but I'm fairly sure given the short time difference between your comment and 5122, that those haven't been addressed (yet).

    Thanks dtd,
I've just tried 5122, but as I'd also suspected given the timescale, no change to my new issue.

I've just pushed an update to the alpha channel (2024.2 build 5123) which I think should fix this now. Thank you dw-uk for the sample data file which made it so much easier to debug the new code.

The fix is available as an alpha build from here: https://infinitekind.com/prepreview

It will also be available from the beta channel soon, and eventually the public/stable download site.

    Thanks!

    Thanks Sean,

I confirm that the graph is completing and the scaling is appropriate with both the dummy data and test copy of the live data.

But, I'm sorry to say there's a new issue - the monthly credit card repayments are being assigned a value of zero, irrespective of the actual CC statement balance. Consequently, the CC balance is incrementing month on month, and not being cleared on each repayment day as previously.

This was evident with the live dataset copy and I've replicated it with the dummy set as follows:

Create a reminder for a monthly payment on CC 'A' of say £50. In FF, set statement and repayment dates, with Current a/c 'A' as the source account for repayments. The repayment is shown in the Transaction Tab, but with zero value.

With the dummy data on my live install of MD2022.6 (4097) it works as expected: £50 TFR from Current a/c to CC 'A' on set repayment day.

    Screenshots of both instances attached.

    Hello,

Thanks for checking into this, but I wonder if the inclusion of the "Savings Accounts" account in the 5123 screenshots explains the differences in graphs for the two versions? I've attached screenshots of transactions and graphs to this message with "Savings Accounts" included in both the new (on left) and the old (on right) versions of moneydance and they seem to match up.

There is a difference in the ordering of transactions in the table between old and new versions but the same transactions are shown in both.

It is very likely that I'm misunderstanding the problem, but maybe you can tell me what's incorrect on the left side of these screenshots?

    Thanks,
    Sean

    Sorry for the confusion.

On the (5123) graph, I should not have included 'Current Accounts' and 'Savings Accounts' - however (as is my normal practice for grouping and ordering accounts) these are just containers holding the actual accounts (Current 'A', etc) and as such are not plotted - the 5 plots visible for both (4097) and (5123) are CC 'A'; CC 'B'; CA 'A'; CA 'B'; CA 'C', whereas, the key for (5123) shows 7 colours, including 'Current Accounts' and Savings Accounts' which two are not plotted (some of the colours are difficult to differentiate!)

There is a lot of other background noise going on in the dataset, some of which caused me to mis-state that the FF CC 'A' repayment was recorded on (5123) with zero value. It was not; I was looking at a place-holder repayment reminder for £0.00; the FF CC repayment was not in fact recorded at all. As such, I maintain the fundamental conclusion that monthly credit card repayments are now being omitted from the FF calculations, whereas previously they were not.

So, I have cut the dummy dataset down to the minimum to demonstrate this (CC 'A', CA 'A' and 2 regular transaction reminders, together with FF CC statement and repayment dates set). I've attached this dataset, together with screenshots of the FF chart and transaction tabs from (4097) and (5124); note the highlighted CC repayment transactions on (4097) which do not appear on (5124)

Thanks for the detailed example data and explanation! I've fixed this calculation for build 5126 which is now available on the alpha download page.

I'll try and wrap things up now for a beta and then stable release, but please let me know if you notice anything else not working.

    Thanks,
    Sean

For various reasons, I'll probably not be able to grab and try 5126 until sometime next week, so I'm glad we got there when we did.
