Downloading update

I downloaded Build 743 instead of 735 which is running OK except for the occasional wrong balance when reconciling. I run Snow Leopard on an Intel Imac. When I tried to open my current file I got the message:=

Error. Java.ioDataFormat exception. Malformed input around Byte 156. Help!!! Please!!!

   What version fo Moneydance were you using before you downloaded 743? Are you still able to open your data file in that older version? MD2010 can open MD2008 data files and earlier and I am still curious as to what version generated your file. Do you a backup of your data file?

   Are you certain you are trying to open the correct file. Your data is stored in a file that ends with the .md extension.

   Would you be willing to privately email me the file that you are unable to open. You can reach me with [email blocked]

   If you are willing I will have one of our engineers take a look at your file.

   I was using MD 2008 when I upgraded free to MD 2010 but I do not seem to bne able to load it now, only 2010 Build 735, which is the version to which I converted from 2008
   When I downloaded 2010 all seemed to go well and it was not until I was told that 743 might help me with initial false starting balances that I tried to download 743 with the result detailed above. If it will help to e-mail the current 2010 file I will happily do so.

   I have youdata file and I am able to open it in build 743 without incident. so the good news is that there is nothing wrong with your data file. I think the quickest way to resolve this would be to completely reinstall 743 on your computer. There is a preferences folder that also needs to be deleted to get a completely cleen install. On OS X to access the preferences folder

   Go to Finder

   press command-shift-G to bring up the Go To Folder dialogue box.

   Enter "~/.moneydance" without the quotes.

   Delete the contents of the folder.

   Thanks Ben. If I delete the preference folder as instructed, what do I
   then do? I really am a bit scared of deleting all my data and am a bit of
   a "Numpty" so would appreciate further guidance. Thanks.

   There isn't much data stored in the preferences folder. You data is stored in your .md data file. Be sure to put that somewhere safe.

   once youhave deleted the preferences folder drag the Moneydance app to the trash. Then download dbuild 743 using

   http://moneydance.com/trac/wiki/Moneydance2010Beta

   selecting the link that says: Moneydance (full application) for Mac OS X 10.4 or higher

   Once you have installed the software again run it and select File->Open, browse to your .md data file and you should be good to go.

   I did everything you told me deleted preferences and downloaded the programme once more. Guess what? It still says I am running build 235 and not 743. I am about to lose whatever little hair have got!!! Help!!!!

   I should have said build 735 not 235. Incidentally immediately after download of the new programme, it told me it was a trial version for 100 uses. I am in fact a fully registered user. This made me think I had been successful in solving the problem. I have not!!!

   You need to drag the currently install version fo the software 735 to the transh and then download and install 743. 743 can only be downloaded from:

   http://moneydance.com/trac/wiki/Moneydance2010Beta

   We only offer the trial for download, you must re-enter your license key into the new installation to remove the trial limitation. Deleting the preferences folder unregistered the software.
