<p>Thanks for your assistance. I was able to manipulate the
Exported Quotes qif file in MS Access and export that to a text
file. I did have to add the top line (!Type:Prices since this isn't
an acceptable field name in Access) to the text file. I used
Notepad in Windows. The text file imported correctly without having
to change the line endings. Now I have an access database complete
with directions on how to do this again should I need to. I chose
to keep all quotes on the 1st thru 3rd, 15th thru 17th and 28th
thru 31st so I would have at least 1 quote from the beginning,
middle and end of the month since any 2 of the days in each range
could have been Sat & Sun. Now I have less than 1000 quotes for
each security so I should be good for almost 9 years - if I keep
quicken that long and they don't fix it. Thanks</p></div>rgwilsontag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/130730282012-11-16T01:24:33Z2012-11-16T01:24:33ZFuture of Moneydance?<div><p>Could you show your file format</p>

how to help people stay with Quicken! I'm glad to see it has been
split off; use the new thread. And complements to MD Support for
letting that discussion continue. But let's get back on topic here,
which is the future of MD, and what MD could do better.</p>
<p>I will go back a few weeks and respond to a comment about MD
support, help, and feature requests. I agree that MD support is
usually prompt and they try really hard to be helpful and solve
user problems. That is something that you will never get from
Intuit in my experience. So many kudos for MD in that respect. But
feature requests, to me, really are a black hole. Without rehashing
one of my pets yet again, suggestions for how to improve MD
matching of downloaded transactions, particularly checks, have been
submitted and rehashed time and again. For example, MD seems to
ignore the check # when matching, and the max look back period is
too short. [Is it that hard to change 90 days to 360?]</p>
<p>Just today, I got another variation. I wrote a lot of charity
checks a few days ago, all on the same day and many for the same
amount. MD dutifully presented several possible matches to the
downloaded transaction, but highlighted the wrong one even though
the bank download had the check # in the Description and Memo
fields. MD ignored it when suggesting the best match. Fortunately,
I went back into the register [MD did NOT show the check # in the
possible matches, either] and found the right one. I respectfully
suggest that the check #, if present in the download, should be the
highest priority match.</p></div>davet65tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/130730282012-11-16T02:33:54Z2012-11-16T02:33:54ZFuture of Moneydance?<div><p>The version of MD I'm running is<br>

<p>Neither I nor sth said we are staying with Quicken. In fact I
think sth said above that he has moved on to MD only. I've been
using both side by side for over a year. I can't afford to lose ANY
data regardless of the application I use. When I found out Quicken
may have an issue and cause my data to get corrupted, I needed to
find a solution and sth was kind enough to help. Sorry that it was
on a competitor's forum but this sort of thing happens on a lot of
forums. I too am grateful that MD allowed the discussion to waiver
and allow the discussion of Quicken.</p>
<p>Now for MD. Entering data is a little confusing as when I make a
new entry, you can see that some data is already in the fields from
a previous entry and gray instead of black even though it is a NEW
record being entered. For example if I am in an investment account
and enter a new record, the security name field is already
populated with a security name but grayed even though the overall
account may have 10 securities and I haven't chosen the right one
yet. Makes the app look sloppy. See the attached file.</p>
<p>There are numerous other issues as well like the Total at the
bottom of the home page is not the total of the values above
because the values above can be Current Balance, Balance or Cleared
Balance and when you change them Net Worth doesn't change. If
you're going to allow 3 calculations for the subsets above, then
Net Worth should be the some of whatever is chosen.</p>
<p>For whatever reason, MD is getting slower and slower to
open.</p>
<p>There are various calculation mistakes (due to incorrect
financial definitions adopted by MD) as other have pointed out.</p>
<p>I see that there is a system where users "Vote" by replying to a
thread. What if you have the problem and don't see the thread and
post a new topic - does your "vote" get counted?</p>
<p>Where is the list of issues being worked on or voted on and the
number of votes received or a timeframe for resolution?</p>
<p>These and other reasons have kept me on the fence and running
both apps side by side.</p></div>rgwilsontag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/130730282012-11-16T04:00:56Z2012-11-16T04:00:56ZFuture of Moneydance?<div><p>I presented MD to the Charlotte Apple Computer Club and posted a
review of the presentation elsewhere. Short review is Intuit users
do not like their support, have lost data and are looking for
anything other than intuit products. MD won over iBank because of
stability and reporting.</p></div>frankradertag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/130730282012-11-16T04:20:19Z2012-11-16T04:21:17ZFuture of Moneydance?<div><p>rgwilson,</p>
<p>No offense intended; sorry. I admit that, since the discussion
of quotes in Q didn't apply to me any longer, I didn't read the
posts closely enough to see your particular situation.</p>
<p>I'm glad that worked out, and appreciate your restating some of
the issues that do keep you on the fence. Support has to keep
hearing that.</p></div>davet65tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/130730282012-11-16T13:16:41Z2012-11-16T13:16:41ZFuture of Moneydance?<div><p>davet65, yes it has gotten off topic and the lengths people go
to in keeping Q from dying is somewhat of a mystery to me. I did
run Q and MD side by side for about 6 months before dropping the Q
just to make sure I had reliability. I expect RG is doing the same
but planning on doing that for another 9 years seems excessive.</p>
<p>But I agree, the check # matching does not seem to work. I get
weird matches in my AMEX bill download that is matching to older
bills instead of the newly downloaded ones. I like the category
matching of the newly downloaded data based on the description, but
then changing the description for a purely downloaded item to a
similar priced item from months ago is bad matching.</p>
<p>frankrader, I believe there is a 2011r2-808 build available. I
think that is the last 2011 build. I have been using it for awhile
(since April??) and it seems to be stable. I think it is available
at <a href=
"http://moneydance.com/preview/">http://moneydance.com/preview/</a></p>
<p>RG, MD has a lot of little UI annoyances with highlighted
buttons that are not the default and the greyed data that seems to
change. This is a result of it being a Java/cross platofrm app and
not native application. There is an attempt to duplicate the Mac UI
but it is not seamless. But cross platform execution is a great
benefit so like most things there is a tradeoff.</p>
<p>Melissa, look earlier in this thread for the format of a quotes
file. I download quotes from TIAA-CREF and have an applescript that
changes the format to a qif file and then import it into MD. The
discussion of qif file is not just for Q but also for importing
data into MD. I think MD is line ending agnostic for the file
format.</p></div>sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/130730282012-11-16T20:58:16Z2012-11-16T20:58:16ZFuture of Moneydance?<div><p>sth<br>
"I expect RG is doing the same but planning on doing that for
another 9 years seems excessive."</p>
<p>I don't plan on using Q2006 mac for another 9 years but at the
same time I'd like a large buffer in place to keep from losing data
so a) I don't have to remember in 2 years about this possibility
and find a fix and b) if MD doesn't fix the issues I may be using Q
for the next 2 years or more. That is unless something better comes
along that appears to be from a stable company with dedication. At
least with MD, it being cross platform, it doesn't matter what type
of OS system one uses and should be a valid application (when
fixed) for a long time.</p>
<p>Importing my data into MD wasn't painless and took some
manipulation to get it right but I finally managed to get it all in
correctly. I tried iBank - what a mess. It didn't import much
correctly and I spent hours trying to get my data into it before
giving up. I also looked at See Finance but couldn't get my data
into it correctly very easily either. iBank may have the $ and
support people but I couldn't leave my data behind. See Finance
seems relatively new too and I'm not sure how long it'll be around.
Don't see it advertised much. iBank ads are everywhere.</p>
<p>More work needs to be done with MD regarding investment
tracking, reporting with the correct calculations, and the UI needs
to be cleaned up. It worries me that if the investment tracking is
largely improved, how will the changes incorporate data already
entered. By still running Q, I could perform the import again
(although not the desired solution).</p></div>rgwilson
