Reinvestments of capital gain distributions and interest
I would like to suggest adding to the "Action" menu in investment accounts actions for the reinvestments of capital gain distributions and interest. Currently (if I understand correctly) the only action for any sort of reinvestment is DivReinvest. Even the oldest versions of the now-defunct Microsoft Money had the following actions:
Reinvest Dividend
Reinvest Interest
Reinvest S-Term CG Dist
Reinvest L-Term CG Dist
Actually, now that I look back at my old MM program, it also had actions for receiving short- and long-term CG distributions, for which there is no Action in MD leaving Div as the only option. These are not dividends and sometimes (for tax planning) it is useful to distinguish them.
Thanks!

In Moneydance DivReinvest describes how a transaction is to be processed it does not tie it to any category or make any assumption on whether it is a dividend or not. therefore you can create appropriate categories and when using the Dividend reinvest action assign the appropriate category to the transaction.

Nice point, thanks. But I suppose this means that the “action” would better be termed Reinvest, not DivReinvest?

Action types tend to follow what Quicken defined many years ago in the QIF specification, which is probably a good thing as it does facilitate migrating data to a different product.
