External Password Storage
I'm currently looking for a replacement for Moneywell, and Moneydance is a top contender. The biggest negative isn't the lack of full envelop budgeting, rather it is not having a way to store online passwords without forcing me to enter a password each time I open it.
It would be really useful if Moneydance had a plugin API to store/get the password for an online account. Then a plugin could be created for each platform that would use the native method of securely storing the account information and users wouldn't be forced to enter any passwords while still having the information stored safely.

Hello,
I can't quite tell if you're critiquing the existing system of password storage in Moneydance, but just to make sure you're aware, you can save your bank passwords by going to File -> Passwords from the Moneydance menu bar and setting a password for your data file as a whole. Moneydance will then remember your bank passwords.
If you're asking if we will allow the storing of bank passwords without setting a password for the data file as a whole, I don't think we'll implement this. That would mean anyone who manages to obtain someone's data file would be able to log into all of one's bank account, and potentially initiate charges through bill pay, etc. That would be a huge security risk.

Hello Ethan, thank you for the quick reply!
I am aware of the ability to store the passwords in the data file itself, but as you mentioned you have a put a password on the file (which means entering the password each time you start Moneydance), and not putting a password on the file would let anyone recover the passwords.
I'm looking for a plugin API so that Moneydance could tell "store password X for account Y username Z" or "get password for account Y username Z". The plugin could then use the OS native secure storage APIs so the passwords wouldn't be stored in the data file.

Are you asking MD to recreate the features of existing password managers like 1Password, LastPass, etc? They do that quite well and that is their specialty,

External passwords could work in Mac OS with Apple's Keychain. I do not remember seeing any similar functionality built-in to Windows or Linux.
