Hi

We've had this conversation before - I've just loaded the latest version but don't know what the changes are. The "changes" page says that the new release covers the following changes between 2017.10 and 2019 (build 1844) but then says nothing more

It would be good to know goodies you've sent us.

Cheers - and Happy New Year - Mike JJosey

    I'm a fellow user.

You will not find a lot of information on MD2019 a yet since it is still officially in Beta testing and is thus unreleased. When it is released an entry will be made in the Blog and that will highlight the new features.

The change log shows the bugs as they are being addressed so you will see a lot of builds there and often multiple builds in the one day.

In my view MD2019 is more an evolutionary release rather than a revolutionary one, it looks the same as MD2017. You will see the basis of a solution that is being implemented as an alternative to Direct Connect and that uses the Bank's Internet Banking sites - but it is not Web connect per see as that is a proprietary Quicken option. This solution will not be complete in the initial 2019 release.

From a systems point of view 32 bit support has gone with the move from Java 8 to Java 11.

There plenty of refinements, for example, better handling of QIF and CSV files, hopefully removing some of the common errors made when importing, better handling of the transactions files, improvements to backup when writing to remote or networked drives.

Note I do not work for TIK, these are my observations.

I've been testing the 2019 release and the updates. I'm having troubles with telling that I'm running the new version. I see two entries for Moneydance in the Windows 10 start menu, but I can't tell them apart. I do see that there is a new version but it doesn't tell me what version I'm running when that happens, so I can't tell until I get in Moneydance which version I'm running and whether this is a major update (2017 to 2019) or an update to a new build. I need some help in figuring out which is running, and I can't really see where things are on my system.
(By the way, my login is insecure. You aren't using https)

    Hello,

You can see which version of Moneydance you are running by going to Help -> Console Window from the Moneydance menubar and looking at the first line of the output.

Once you figure out which version is currently being run, perhaps you can rename that shortcut you used to open it to include the version number? That's often what I do from a tech support perspective, since I have to help people running any version.

I didn't create a shortcut.  The installer did the "shortcut"on the
start line.  I'm not sure how to change the start menu shortcut.   I
know how to tell which version I'm running, just not sure how to pick
the one want. Also, I can find only one in the Program Files/MoneyDance
directory.    In the Apps folder in windows, I only see one and that one
is build 1839 as is the one on my start menu.  The one in the Moneydance
folder is 1846.    So I don't know where the Windows system is "storing"
the Moneydance executable that it wants to use.  And, as I said, if when
I run Moneydance it says there is a new version, but I can't tell if I
should upgrade, since I can't tell which version I'm running until it
    comes up.

    Thanks,
    Dave

It sounds like you may have installed some versions of MD 2019 using the APPX installer and some using the EXE installer.

No compatibility at all between those two, they install to different locations completely, one cannot remove or update the other etc etc. The APPX installer has currently been withdrawn because of some problems it has on some systems.

To deinstall the APPX version - which should be an older build in any case, within APPS right click on Moneydance and select deinstal.

OK, Thanks.  I did see that one of the files I installed was an appx
installer.   I was afraid to uninstall because of some possible
collateral damage.   This seems to fix the problem.

    thanks,
    Dave

Glad to hear it's sorted out. In general the presumption is that people won't be running multiple versions of Moneydance on their computers. We usually try to prevent this from happening by default, since accidentally opening an older version of the program has been one of the most common sources of customer confusion the last few years. If one is testing beta or preview builds, I think some effort would need to be made to keep the versions clarified.

Downloaded and installed as an update the 2019 Moneydance on a Windows 10 OS desktop. On first launch after installation a pop-up window asks for the password to my moneydance data file which I supply. Then nothing happens. I try to relaunch - nothing at all. I go to the program folder and try "Run as Administrator" - still nothing. Reboot Windows and on once again tarying to launch MD, I again see the pop-up window for my password and nothing beyond that. Error log attached.

I am not support staff, just a user.

Can you try the following with Moneydance closed?
Move not copy your data set to the default location from E:\MoneyDance.moneydance\Documents\Administrator's Quicken Data.moneydance
Then open moneydance. if you have moved the data set to the default location it should open in the welcome window with your data listed set on the right. Click on it to see what happens.
If you are not shore were the default location is just post.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Steve,

According to your logs, Moneydance is running up against its own limit on the amount of RAM it can use. It sounds like you just need to increase that limit, which you can do by editing the Moneydance.vmoptions file in Notepad. The Moneydance.vmoptions file is located in the folder where Moneydance is installed, so most likely c:\Program Files\Moneydance\Moneydance.vmoptions

If you open that file with Notepad or any other text editor you'll see some instructions for how to change it. I'd recommend changing the -Xmx1024m setting with -Xmx2048m which doubles the amount of memory that Moneydance is allowed to use. Please feel free to give it more, especially since we set it so low to enable it to work with computers having very small amounts of RAM.

    Thanks!
