YTD comparison report

Is a year to date or month-to-month comparison report available? I see others have asked for it (2011, 2016) and their discussions are now closed. Does this mean it's been created? If so, what is the name of the report?

To be clear, I'm looking to see a Profit and Loss statement that shows comparisons of the current and previous time period (both YTD and month by month comparisons) by income/expense category. Eg Groceries Jan 2018 vs Jan 2019 for month to month; Groceries Jan - Jun 2017 vs Groceries Jan - Jun 2018). It'd be ideal if we could drill down into it too.

    Hello,

There isn't a report specifically for this, but you can do this for some time periods with existing reports. Try the Income and Expense report. You can select a period of a few years, and then choose the Group By: Year option. This will display your categories in columns of those years side by side.

You could use the Group By option in that report for other periods as well, but it's not that optimal for shorter periods. For example, you could choose to group by month for a period of two years, but that would create 24 columns, so you'd likely have to scroll horizontally to compare January from last year with the one from the year before that. I know some people do things like adjusting the column size, or exporting to a spreadsheet and hiding columns, but this obviously isn't a great workaround..

    Hi Wendie,

Just to add to Ethan's reply, with regards to the 24-column type of report. You can drag-n-drop columns in such a report. Therefore, you could, for instance, drag the January column from one year next to the January column of another year and disregard the other columns.

If you set up Budget Bars to use last year's actual category amounts, you can have a comparison on your summary page for selected time periods (MD's drop-down periods, of which YTD and monthly are available) against last year's averages for the categories selected as budget bars. I usually have YTD selected and look at This Year often.

I too would like to see a Year to Date comparison report. Just to be clear, using the Income & Expense report, if I ran the report today, I would like the the two columns to be 01/01/2018 to 04/24/2018 compared to 01/01/2019 to 04/24/2019.

Currently, the closest I can get to this kind of report is to use the Custom Dates of 01/01/2018 to 04/24/2019 and group by year. This shows the entire 2018 compared to Year to Date for 2019. Thank you.
