Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Although a report specifically designed for this purpose is not available, you can achieve this with existing reports.

Within the Income and Expense report. You can select a period of several years, and then choose the Group By: Year option.
This will display your categories in columns of those years side by side.
You could use the Group By option in that report for other periods as well, but it's not that optimal for shorter periods.

For example, you could choose to group by month for a period of two years, which would create 24 columns, so you'd likely have to scroll horizontally to compare January from last year with the one from the year before that.
You could adjust the column size, or export to a spreadsheet after hiding the columns.
Within the 24-column type of report, you can drag-n-drop columns, as well. For instance, you could drag the January column from one year, next to the January column of another year and disregard the other columns.

Also, you if you set up Budget Bars to use last year's actual category amounts, you can have a comparison on your summary page for selected time periods (Moneydance's drop-down periods, of which year-to-date/monthly are available) against last year's averages for the categories selected as budget bars.

Finally, please find the steps below:
- Navigate to the Income & Expense report from the left side bar. - Click the 'Edit' button to open the parameters window. - Click the 'Reset' button at the bottom. - Set the Date parameters to Start Date 01/01/2018, End Date 12/31/2019 - Set the 'Group By' option to 'Group By Year'. Above the large box at the bottom, click the 'None' button, then click the 'By Individual' button.
- Select the desired 'category(s)' to generate the report. - Click OK.

To export the report to Excel, use either the 'Copy to clipboard' button and paste it into Excel or use the 'Save' button.
You can then save the report as either HTML or as a delimited file, either of which you can open in Excel. (be sure to retain the relevant file extension when naming the report file).

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have further questions or need any assistance.

The real answer is that Moneydance doesn't have a way to do it the way I want. The work around you gave was pretty much the same work around I had in my question. It doesn't work for me. Would it be possible to add this to the list of improvements for future versions? Please advise. Thank you.

goforit1
