Totalling of Stock Holdings
Having looked deeply into my MD I cannot find an easy way to get the total holdings of a particular stock which I hold on several platforms.I can get a good report of the individual holdings on each platform and a total of the cost, gains and balance over the platforms. BUT there is no total for the number of stocks held on the platforms. The only way to do this is to get a calculator out and add up the individual holdings.
Surely this is a very easy thing to program in to get the total stock holdings, I hope you can help.

. That is already done in an upgrade I have ready. I can send a preview? Are you on the latest 2021.2012 version as I can send an extension.

Thanks Stuart, Rather than go down the extension route I’ll wait for the upgrade as I can cope with that!

Either way is fine. FYI - if you load as an extension then it’s always available from the moneydance (extension) menu without having to load the moneybot console each time...

Hi Geoff, attached a preview version build: 999 (fully working) of the latest StockGlance2020 script. You can choose the script or extension version (they are the same).... But you need to be on 2021.2012 for the Extension version to work... Let me know that it's working OK for you? Thanks S

Hi,
Could you remind me of the mechanics of how I load this into Moneydance. I am using an old version, but for some reason securities in certain currencies are not included in the totalling report (like HKD) but maybe its just me.
Thanks
David

Do you mean you are using an old version of moneydance or the script? What Moneydance version do you have?
37 Posted by davidvernonlong on 12 Dec, 2020 10:29 PM
Hi
An old version of the script.
David
38 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on 12 Dec, 2020 10:42 PM
Ok. Assuming you do mean my stockglance2020 script (and not the very original stockglance extension or stockglance75 scripts)...
Menu>Window>Show Moneybot console
OPEN > select the new StockGlance2020.py file
Click RUN (not run snippet)
If on a Mac, ignore the two silly xxx.dylib messages (click bin or ignore)
Hey presto.
As for missing stocks, run with the hide hidden XYZs set to NO (so nothing is excluded).
Let me know if it works or whether you still have missing stocks?

OK, I’ll try the extension. I think I’m on your latest version, can’t find where that info is but I know I’ve always used your latest version.
Many thanks for your help, Geoff

FYI. When you run the script it tells you the version in the title bar heading in brackets.
PS - to use the extension you will have to unzip the zip file and install / load the enclosed .mxt file.

Morning Stuart,
Afraid I came up short here. I made sure I had the latest version of Moneydance and when I check this using “About Moneydance” I get the result Version 2021 (2006).
I then tried to install the mxt file as I presume this is the one for the extension but it didn’t work (probably because I’ve got 2021 (2006)). I seem to remember you use Mac; could it be that Mac has different version numbers?
Anyway, using the Moneybot route gave me the desired table which retains my column widths.
Once again, thanks for your help on this,
Geoff

Further to my last, it appears that the Extension has installed and appears on the Extension tab as StockGlance 2020. However, it will not run!

Hi, as I mentioned above, you have to be on the latest preview 2021.2012 for the extension to run.... Are you on this version??? If not, you will just have to use the script..... Let me know? S

You get 2021.2012 from here: https://infinitekind.com/preview

Thanks Stuart, that’s installed and works a treat with the extension. I’m learning slowly with your help!
Many thanks,
Geoff

You may be the very first user running a Python Extension in Moneydance.....!
47 Posted by davidvernonlong on 13 Dec, 2020 06:24 PM
Hi,
I did all of that and it seemed the script tried to run, but all I got was a screen with headings only, which took a few minutes.
This the log of the attempt.
48 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on 13 Dec, 2020 06:35 PM
Hi David, can you run as a script (and not an extension) and a) in the parameter screen - change DEBUG on to Y, b) send me that output, c) send a screen shot of the display.. Thanks
49 Posted by davidvernonlong on 13 Dec, 2020 07:50 PM
Hi Stuart
Here it is and screen shot. What I now noice is if I click on the screen then bits of it open up as I move over with mouse and click away.
Screen shot is at end of the log
Thanks
David

Hi David, ok looks like it will be more complicated to identify the problem. But worth doing. I donât want you sending personal data over this forum which is public. Are you willing to reply with your email and then I can contact you directly with suggestions etc?
Regards Stuart B

OK, we have identified and fixed a bug uncovered by David's data - thanks DVL. Updated extension and script attached
55 Posted by davidvernonlong on 17 Dec, 2020 10:03 AM
Thanks, that works well.
Would it possible to have a report similar to the “Investment Performance “ report on this basis.?
As I have transferred some securities between accounts, and the only way to do this in MoneyDAnce is by dummy sales and purchases at cost, it means that I do not have a total view of the performance of those securities. The originating account will still have dividends and realised gains/losses , with any dividends, realized or unrealized gain/lossess after the transfer being in the new account.
Thanks
David

Hi, I wish!! I would also like this for me too... I can't for the life of me work out the logic though... If you are able to work out the logic (I don't mean technical) then I might be able to try.....?
57 Posted by davidvernonlong on 17 Dec, 2020 10:40 AM
Hi
If I could take my data, download it into Excel, and manipulate there to
give the desired result, would that help.?
David
58 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on 17 Dec, 2020 11:02 AM
Yes, if it's simple data. I really just need one stock, with transfers to/from several accounts, several times, with buy/sells across the multiple accounts, and the maths/logic. The sheet would need to show how to cope with the cost basis and the value/gains.... I think it's a brain twister.. Don't hurry though, I can't knock this up immediately....

To StockGlance2020 users. All my extract scripts have now been consolidated into a single script/extension called extract_data. The old individual scripts have been decommissioned.

Is anyone from IK monitoring this discussion and could comment on if there is a formal development submission to augment the investment reporting capability such that we can get reports of our investments per portfolio (vs per account)?
Like the OP, I need a report that will give me totals for my individual holdings, regardless of which account they are in. In other words, I don't want to subtotal by account. In fact I'd like the option of the other way around: for each holding, give me my totals (as well as associated data like gains, etc) and optionally tell me which account(s) contain each of my holdings.
If such a request is in the queue for development, are there any timelines for availability?
