The so called Net Worth report that you generate is really more like a total value of selected accounts report. Its naming is more misleading than anything. I'm not sure what you would call it. It differs from the account balances report in that the later does not include the value of securities.

I can reproduce your issue with an account that is not on the sidebar. I'm not sure if there is a solution, it appears that there needs to be something highlighted in the side bar and if the account is not present it does not seem that the highlight has anywhere to go.

Yes X in the C field indicates cleared. Reconciling in Moneydance is an intermediate stage. So there is primary two states cleared and uncleared.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481198992020-02-27T05:22:54Z2020-02-27T05:22:54ZObservations in MD usage

Is there any way to see a table of accounts, showing which are hidden or inactive or maybe even initial balance, or is this a one by one edit bit (which I suspect is the case)?

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481198992020-02-27T05:58:21Z2020-02-27T05:58:21ZObservations in MD usage

Menu option Tools --> Account will give you a list of accounts and current balances. Accounts in light grey are inactive, black are active when using classic Theme (colours can vary according to the theme in use).

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481198992020-02-27T06:24:02Z2020-02-27T06:24:02ZObservations in MD usage

Thanks, that helped a lot. Next question (even though this is in suggestions)

I have a security with no name, appears as ^:^, what's the proper way to remove it? For some reason it seems to "exist" in every investment account - maybe a remnant of my QIF import?

I tried removing it globally, but I suspect I may have to walk through the acounts. Given your great answer just now, maybe you have a better way?

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481198992020-02-27T06:27:58Z2020-02-27T06:33:15ZObservations in MD usage

The fact that this says "account" vs. "security" makes saying yes very scary.

And yes, if you look at the picture, nothing seems to show that I picked "remove security" - it appears I'm about to delete that entire account. and maybe i will? i backed out.

edit: looking further, it seems there SHOULD be a security name after the ending colon, but it still says "account", and I think I stated the security I'm looking at has no name.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481198992020-02-27T06:31:40Z2020-02-27T06:31:40ZObservations in MD usage

Before you can delete a security it has to be deleted from each account. Moneydance will not allow you to remove a security that is "in use".

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481198992020-02-27T06:34:10Z2020-02-27T06:42:19ZObservations in MD usage

so - a walk through of all accounts to delete the unnamed security... gotcha, and now I think I can do it (you may want to read my multiple edits in the last message)

I did a mostly walk through - and then it seemed to disappear on its own in the top level security list. Hope that means I did it right.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481198992020-02-27T07:26:53Z2020-02-27T07:26:53ZObservations in MD usage

There are little reminders in Moneydance that accounting principles underlie the program and in some cases that the same screen is used for multiple purposes. Ideally a task should be given to a maintenance programmer to go and tidy things up.

dwg
