Exchange Rate and Foreign Amount
I would like to be able to see the Exchange Rate and Foreign Amount in the register when I enter a transaction that is in a different currency to that of the account I'm entering it in. The fields exist, but currently they're only active if I make a transfer between accounts in different currencies.

Hi Geoff,
This can be accomplished by having a category that is in a different currency than the account is. So you would have to create a new category, set it to the currency you'd like to work with, and then enter transactions in that currency with that category.
If you have transactions already in categories that are foreign amounts, you would have to batch change those transactions in that category to the new foreign currency category.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!

I understand this, but I don't run my budget is USD! I run it and all my accounts in GBP. What I was looking for was a way to show the exchange rate and original currency amount in the register.
Looks like I have to use iBank if I want this functionality!
Regards,
Geoff

Hi Geoff,
The base currency you use doesn't matter and Moneydance supports the functionality that you're looking for, if I understand you correctly. If you create a category that's in a currency other than GDP that you use in an account, the exchange rate and foreign amount will show up when entering transactions in that category, even if the base currency is GDP and not USD. It will also show the exchange rate.
If I'm not understanding you correctly, could you please further clarify what you're looking for exactly?

Scott,
I understand this, but this isn't what I want.
My accounts and categories are all in GBP. I don't want to create duplicate categories in other currencies.
When I make a purchase online in USD, I want to be able to enter that transaction as the USD amount and have Moneydance convert it (which it does) AND show in the register the original USD amount and the exchange rate applied AND post the double-entry to a GBP category. The foreign currency and exchange rate are there for information.
Regards,
Geoff

Hi Geoff,
Ok, I understand. Unfortunately, Moneydance only supports doing this in the way that I described.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!
